05-9609r 209 RESOLUTION NO. 9609 RESOLUTION ENCOURAGING STATE EXECUTIVE AND LEGISLATIVE LEADERS TO FIND A LONG TERM SOLUTION TO THE STATE'S TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT NEEDS WHEREAS, Minnesota needs to adequately and strategically invest additional resources in superior transit and road with predictable, accountable, and long-term funding that supports a variety of options, including transit and roads; and WHEREAS, new transportation resources must prioritize public transit within a comprehensive, multi-modal, interconnected transportation system that serves the 11- county metro area. Additional light rail and commuter rail lines, along with expanded bus service, must be employed to support our fast-growing region; and WHEREAS, courageous and visionary leadership is vital to forging a sustainable, long-term transportation plan for our state and region. Dedicated leadership must drive progress on that plan and maintain accountability for the process to the public; and WHEREAS, urgent attention to this challenge is essential; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we call on our state leaders in the legislative and executive branches to get to the table, to work on a long-term funding solution for our transportation needs, and to get something done in 2005.
