GENERAL INFORMATION
Type of Request: Transportation Update

ANALYSIS
Proposal: Public Works Department staff will provide an update on a variety of
transportation projects and topics. Over the past year, redevelopment projects,
proposed airport expansion and federal funding opportunities have caused
some major adjustments in Richfield's transportation plans. The following
projects will be discussed:
35W /I -494 interchange
66`
x' St /TH 77 interchange
Lyndale /I -494 bridge
Penn Ave /I -494 bridge
TEA21 (federal funding) applications
Traffic calming
Condition of local streets

Issues: The City Council and Planning Commission discussed the issue of traffic
impacts on residential neighborhoods from new development at their joint
meeting. The Commission was asked to review this issue and its relationship
to the Comprehensive Plan. This presentation can provide the basis for
additional discussion about transportation in the Comprehensive Plan at the
November study session.
Commissioners may want to review for following sections in the
Comprehensive Plan:
Community goals: ONE -6 to ONE -10
Transportation information: ONE -29 to ONE -31
Some transportation - related issues can also be found throughout the sub-
area plans: ONE -18 to ONE -29
ACTION TO BE TAKEN
Recommendation: Listen to a presentation on transportation projects. Provide direction to
staff on future transportation discussion.
