JOINT SC/CSC MEETING
CALL TO ORDER AND PUBLIC COMMENT
Chair Johanson called the meeting to order at 7:00 and opened the floor to public comments. Resident Birgit Johnson expressed
appreciation of Huemiller for being receptive to concerns about being sensitive to wildlife at Vets Park with the park and trail
reconstruction work. Resident Heidi Gaibor voiced concern about wildlife at Vets Park.
NATURAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT PLAN
Huemiller presented a draft of the City’s Natural Resources Management Plan, a plan to protect, restore, enhance, and maintain Richfield’s
natural areas. He introduced Evie Moran, a staff member from Great River Greening, who is working with the city on the plan. Moran and
Huemiller reviewed the objectives of the plan, highlighting the specific Richfield parks and natural areas on which it will focus.
STAFF UPDATES Huemiller provided updates on the following:
• Pool renovation project on schedule to be complete by pool opening on June 12
• Arena lobby renovation is progressing
• DNR grant application submitted for the Vets Park project. This grant would make a wildlife viewing platform possible.
• Community Gardens opening is delayed due to Killdeer nesting.
• Wood Lake Building Project is on schedule, with roof work nearing completion and windows in place.
• Earth Day is April 22. Events taking place next weekend.
• Tree sale is open to non-Richfield residents. About 30 trees left.
• Master Park Plan work has kicked off. Staff tour was held and a pinpoint survey will be released.
• New recreation software to be implemented this fall.
