2023-04 CSCRICHFIELD COMMUNITY SERVICES ADVISORY COMMISSION DRAFT MINUTES UNTIL APPROVED BY THE CSC.REGULAR COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING Tuesday, April 18, 2023 Richfield Municipal Center (Heredia Room) PRESENT CSC: Brooke Nelson, Meredith Bruzek, Jenna Hanson, Adam Kerekes, BJ Skoog, Hayley Tompkins, David Vrieze Daniels, Mike Devane STAFF: Amy Markle (Recreation Director), John Evans (Secretary) <COUNCIL: Ben Whalen < ABSENT CSC: Tessa Johanson, Jessica Johnson-Kreps OTHERS: Crystal Brakke (school board) Call to Order/Approval of Minutes Acting Chair Hanson called to order at 7:01. Nelson moved, seconded by Devane, to approve the minutes of the regular March meeting. Approved. Staff Reports Recreation Services Director Markle reported: Staff testified with the MN Senate about the Wood Lake Nature Center project for the Minnesota Bonding Bill. Status of the local sales tax consideration is uncertain; MN House may assemble a LST subcommittee. Eco Fair was held at Richfield High School on April 15 with 500 people attending. Staff is planning Earth Day events: park cleanup at Vets on 4/20, park cleanup at Roosevelt on 4/29, 10 am. Wood Lake Earth Day Celebration on Sunday, April 23. Richfield Youth Dance held their recital on April 1. Seasonal help recruitment still happening: pool has enough lifeguards! Need playground leaders. Skate park virtual engagement session held on April 13. Bike park engagements will be held in May. Fairwood playground open house held prior to CSC meeting on April 18. Donaldson playground open house will be held on Monday, April 24. Splash pad preliminary plans are almost ready to present. Recreation Department has been working with a consultant to develop mission, vision, and values statements. A youth sports storage building at Donaldson Park has suffered water damage and needs to be removed. Staff has been removing baseball and football supplies for demolition and a memo will be sent to the City Council about it. Skoog shared news about an upcoming Richfield Leadership event on May 18. Action Items Capital Improvement Plan Markle reviewed the projects included in the 2023-2030 Recreation Capital Improvement Plan. She reviewed the play equipment replacement schedule, some major maintenance items, tennis court rebuilds, and other projects. Bruzek moved, seconded by Devane, to recommend approval of the plan. Approved, no objections. Friends of Wood Lake Board Appointment: Jerome Bergquist Vrieze Daniels moved, seconded by Kerekes, to appoint Bergquist to a three-year term on the Friends of Wood Lake Board. Approved, no objections.
