Call to Order/Approval of Agenda & Minutes
Chair Wendt called the meeting to order at 7:08 pm. The 10/19 agenda and 9/21 regular meeting minutes were approved by consensus.
Staff Reports
Recreation Services Updates
Recreation Services Director Markle reported on the following:
The Friday Fun program at Augsburg Park just ended after six weeks.
Two playgrounds scheduled to be installed this fall will be installed in the spring instead: Christian and Fremont Park.
Wood Lake had their 50th Birthday Party in early October with 650 people attending.
Saturday, October 23, is Wood Lake’s Half-Haunted Halloween
Thursday, October 21, the MN State Legislative Bonding Committee will tour Wood Lake
Free Zumba on Sundays in October has been well-attended.
Penn Fest was successful coming up Saturday, September 19.
School-Out Programs being held this week for MEA
Getting quotes to repair the roof at the Richfield Pool
Arena hosted large hockey tournament on 10/16-17.
Halloween Doggie Walk at the Roosevelt Dog Park on October 30.
Organized hauling was launched in October.
New program: Family Open Gym at the Holy Angels Dome.
Discussion Items
Winter Food Drive
MacDonald said that the goal will be 5,000 pounds; the food drive is listed in the fall recreation brochure. She said that VEAP will weigh the food as we go to keep people informed about
the progress. She said that she hopes the liquor stores, more businesses, and some apartment buildings will be drop-off locations. Other sites were suggested: Ice Arena, the gyms, Lakewinds
Co-Op, City Hall, Community Center, Augsburg Library, Wood Lake Nature Center, churches, Richfield History Center.
Place-Making Project with MN-DOT
Markle talked about MnDOT’s redevelopment of 494 from Cedar to Eden Prairie and they want to assemble a committee of residents and staff to offer input about the aesthetics of the projects,
like the colors, materials, decorative features. She said that a joint CSC/Planning Commission meeting is being planned for November, where they would explain the project. Markle said
that Bruzek has volunteered to be part of this committee. Markle said that she would keep the CSC members posted about the joint meeting in November.
Wood Lake Nature Center Building Project
Markle said that a bonding bill tour, including Governor Walz, will be held on Thursday, October 21, 4:00 pm.
Commission Member Recruitment
Markle said that the Council will recruit for new members in November, so it will be important for people to put out the word about serving on a board or commission.
