Call to Order/Approval of Agenda & Minutes
Chair Wendt called the meeting to order at 7:03 pm. The 9/21 agenda and 7/20 regular meeting minutes were approved by consensus.
Staff Reports
Recreation Services Updates
Recreation Services Director Markle reported on the following:
Record-breaking attendance and revenue this summer at the Outdoor Pool.
Wood Lake summer camps were full; other youth programs had great attendance.
Augsburg Adventure Park will open with a ceremony on Thursday, July 22.
Urban Wildland Half Marathon & 5K was a success.
Penn Fest was successful coming up Saturday, September 19.
Richfield Lake Poetry Walk was unveiled.
Round-Up Program at the liquor stores is currently raising money for a butterfly garden at Augsburg Park.
Parking lots at Veterans Park, Ice Arena, and City Hall are being resurfaced.
Richfield Recreation is receiving two awards from MRPA for the Off-Leash Dog Park and the virtual recreation programming during 2020.
Organized hauling is launching in October.
Two playgrounds are being installed this fall: Christian and Fremont Park.
Recreation Supervisor Introduction: Huy Nguyen
Recreation Services Director Markle introduced Recreation Supervisor Huy Nguyen, who talked about his position as supervisor of athletic facilities, special events, and other programming.
Discussion Items
Winter Food Drive
MacDonald talked about plans for the second year of the Winter Food Drive. She said that people and businesses volunteered to be drop-off sites last year since City offices were closed;
4,000 pounds of food were collected. She said a good goal for this year would be 5,000 pounds. The drive will run from December 1 to 15. She said that we will discuss it again at the
October meeting.
Wood Lake Nature Center Building Project
Markle provided an update:
-A bonding bill tour is scheduled with Governor Walz for October 21.
-Launched an engagement survey online.
Action Items
Friends of Wood Lake Board Appointment: David Adams
The group agreed, by consensus, to appoint David Adams to the Friends of Wood Lake Board.
