Vice Chair Wendt called the meeting to order at 7:03 pm.
Approval of Minutes
The 9/15/20 meeting agenda and the minutes of the regular August 2020 meeting were both approved by general consent.
Staff Reports
Recreation Services
Recreation Services Director Markle reported on the following:
Community Playground Build today (9/15) at Washington Park. Build scheduled for 9/29 at Madison Park.
Construction on Roosevelt Dog Park has begun.
Operating budget presented to Council on 9/10. COVID was the biggest impact on the budget (less revenue and cost savings from keeping full-time positions vacant and no seasonal positions).
Several classes have resumed, although outside and with fewer participants (under the Vets Park shelter, the Wood Lake park shelter, etc).Working with Public Safety to determine what
it may take to reopen the Community Center and Wood Lake.
Annual special events coming up with modifications: Wood Lake Halloween event, Great Pumpkin Giveaway
Free bike giveaway: over 200 bikes given away on 9/11 at Taft Park

Recreation Services Director Markle reported on the following:
COVID -19 Impacts: revenue is down by 2/3 in 2020. Some expenditures have been saved from program supplies and staff positions not filled. Several classes have resumed, although outside
and with fewer participants (under the Vets Park shelter, the Wood Lake park shelter, etc).Working with Public Safety to determine what it may take to reopen the Community Center and
Wood Lake. Annual special events coming up with modifications: Wood Lake Halloween event, Great Pumpkin Giveaway.
Playground Projects: Community Playground Build today (9/15) at Washington Park. Build scheduled for 9/29 at Madison Park. Taft Park has new equipment being installed at the south end,
funded by Three Rivers Park District. Augsburg Park project will likely be delayed until 2021 due to the State DNR grant and approvals from a tribal council that hasn’t been meeting.
Active Youth Grant from Hennepin County: Several programs: free mini golf, free open skating, free fishing program with Three Rivers, free Sanneh Youth Soccer Camp, Sports To Go equipment
loan program, tents and Biffs, and more.
Fall/Winter Programming: looking at the feasibility of some events and programs, as well as programs that we would be able to offer (outdoor environmental education and ski rental at
Wood Lake).
Ice Arena Renovation: ice is back open and has been in use by weekend tournaments, open skating, etc.
Farmers Market Update: Anderson gave an update about the 2020 Farmers Market.
