Approval of Minutes Benson moved, seconded by Nwaudo, to approve the minutes of the June 2020 meeting. Approved, ayes all. Staff Reports Recreation Services Recreation Services Director Markle reported on the following: Arena Refrigeration Project is about 2/3 done. Ice booked for this fall. Staff back at work. Virtual recreation programs (videos, online activities, etc); transitioning to self-guided programs. Staff is still working Park Ambassador shifts. Farmers Market has seen good attendance. July is National Recreation Month. Wood Lake has been selected as a spotlighted hiking destination by Explore Minnesota (thanks to the Tourism Promotion Board). Three Rivers is setting up a temporary disc golf course on August 1 at Taft. Tee time signup is online. Discussion Items COVID-19 Impacts Markle said that federal CARES funds will be available to relieve COVID-related expenses. Some programs have resumed: youth athletics, soccer camp, Wood Lake camps, tennis lessons, and shelter rentals. Community Center and Wood Lake are still closed to the public. Playground Projects Update Markle reviewed the playground projects that will be constructed in 2020: Washington (community build), Madison (community build), Taft (funded by Three Rivers Park District), and the all-inclusive playground at Augsburg Park (Richfield was awarded the state bonding grant). These projects will be done in August-October. Dog Park Markle said that the Roosevelt Dog Park will be completed this year. Richfield Active Youth Grant-Hennepin County Markle said that the City received $100,000 in funds from Hennepin County, through Three Rivers Park District, for programs that will keep youth and families active this summer, particularly in light of the fact that COVID has affected many traditional programs; the focus is on no-cost activities. Urban Wildland Virtual Races Markle said that the Urban Wildland Virtual Races registration is open and people can start recording their times from this Saturday, July 25, through Saturday, August 1. She said the races have about 530 registrants, which will help us meet our financial needs for this year. This year, we presented the Runner Voices Project, an interview series with active people in the running community. Fall/Winter Programming Markle said that Governor Walz will be announcing new Fall guidelines on July 27, so we will know more about what programs and facilities we can reintroduce and re-open. She said that Wood Lake may be affected if school groups aren’t planning field trip. She said that our plan is to announce programs a month to six weeks at a time with our calendar.
