Discussion Items
COVID-19 Impacts
Markle said that federal CARES funds will be available to relieve COVID-related expenses. Some programs have resumed: youth athletics, soccer camp, Wood Lake camps, tennis lessons,
and shelter rentals. Community Center and Wood Lake are still closed to the public.
Playground Projects Update
Markle reviewed the playground projects that will be constructed in 2020: Washington (community build), Madison (community build), Taft (funded by Three Rivers Park District), and the
all-inclusive playground at Augsburg Park (Richfield was awarded the state bonding grant). These projects will be done in August-October.
Dog Park
Markle said that the Roosevelt Dog Park will be completed this year.
Richfield Active Youth Grant-Hennepin County
Markle said that the City received $100,000 in funds from Hennepin County, through Three Rivers Park District, for programs that will keep youth and families active this summer, particularly
in light of the fact that COVID has affected many traditional programs; the focus is on no-cost activities.
Urban Wildland Virtual Races
Markle said that the Urban Wildland Virtual Races registration is open and people can start recording their times from this Saturday, July 25, through Saturday, August 1. She said the
races have about 530 registrants, which will help us meet our financial needs for this year. This year, we presented the Runner Voices Project, an interview series with active people
in the running community.
Fall/Winter Programming
Markle said that Governor Walz will be announcing new Fall guidelines on July 27, so we will know more about what programs and facilities we can reintroduce and re-open. She said that
Wood Lake may be affected if school groups aren’t planning field trip. She said that our plan is to announce programs a month to six weeks at a time with our calendar.
