Action Items Peterson Family Dedication: Richfield Community Band Shell Band Shell Taskforce Chair Rick Jabs explained the group’s recommendation to dedicate the stage of the Richfield Community Band Shell to the Peterson Family. He said that the group is following the Facility Dedication Policy process to honor the Petersons, who, the group feels, made a significant contribution to the community. Smieja asked if the facility will be named for the Peterson Family. Jabs said that the facility will still be named the Richfield Community Band Shell with a plaque dedicating the stage as the Peterson Family Performance Stage. Smieja suggested that the facility dedication be accompanied by an education process that tells people about the Peterson Family’s contribution to the community. Felgate said that he wonders if this naming is inconsistent with the typical facility naming and dedications because of financial contributions. Jabs said that the Peterson Family was present and instrumental from the beginning in the fundraising effort, which resulted in $67,000 being raised. Also, Jabs said that the dedication is about their decades-long contributions to the community. Wendt said that he objects to the fact that this will effectively name the stage rather than just posting a dedication. Engeldinger moved, seconded by Smieja, to recommend Council approval of the dedication of the stage at the Richfield Community Band Shell to the Peterson Family. Approved, six ayes, two nos (Felgate, Wendt). Nicollet Park Improvements Link reviewed some of the improvements that the Public Works Department would be able to make to Nicollet Park out of their maintenance budget, rather than capital improvement funds. He said that improvements could include adding green space by removing the tennis court, possibly removing the sand volleyball court, and updating trails. He said that the work could be done in conjunction with some of the road work being done along Nicollet Avenue. Felgate suggested an improved crossing of Nicollet at the north end of the park for the bike trail. Link said that a neighborhood meeting or two would be held to gather feedback about the improvements.
