Discussion Items
Emerald Ash Borer Response Plan
Public Works Superintendent Link presented the City’s approach to treating, removing, and replacing diseased trees on the boulevard, as well as the approach to diagnosing trees on private
property and recommending tree contractors. He noted the areas with the highest concentration of ash trees, saying that some removals will be necessary, but none will be treated this
year. He said that the approach is to minimize the impact on the overall ash tree stock.
Design for Park Monument Signs
Topitzhofer presented some design ideas, including large signs like the one at Wood Lake, and smaller signs similar to the ones in place now, but made of composite material. Link said
that a third option would be to renovate the existing signs. Thompson and others preferred the simpler design, similar to what is in place. By consensus, the group also wanted to consider
the renovation idea. Topitzhofer said that he would bring prices and plan options for renovation or new similar signs. Cintron de Nunez suggested that park ordinances and warnings
be displayed prominently on or near the new signs.
