The meeting was called to order by Ahmad Ansari, Chair.
Those in attendance: Ahmad Ansari, Rori Coleman-Woods, Dave Delzer, Pixie Pixler,
JoAnn Boraas, Jim Topitzhofer (Staff Liasion)
Absent, excused: Cynthy Mandl (RFCC Ambassador), Marty Kirsch, Mary Olafson
Approval of Minutes: Minutes from the October 19, 2017, meeting were approved as
drafted.
Treasurer’s Report: Mary Olafson, RFCC Treasurer, was not in attendance. Her
report will be submitted to Jim and Ahmad.
Old Business: Commission Vacancies: Jim reported that the Vice-Principal of
Richfield High School aids in identifying potential student members. Jim will inform
JoAnn of the Spanish language teacher’s name and contact information and JoAnn will
contact him/her. The guidelines for participation will also be forwarded by Jim to JoAnn.
Meeting with potential student members to discuss the RFCC Commission’s activities
was promoted, as well as using the Commission’s current brochure as part of the
orientation.
Recognition of student members: Regarding recent student members Hadiya
Bakar and Hannia “Sharon” Amegee, Jim has drafted a letter of appreciation for their
participation. Discussion revolved over generating letters of appointment, letters of
appreciation (upon completion of the student term), and a certificate of participation as
has been done in the past. This will be further discussed at our next meeting.
Expiring terms of current RFCC members: January 31, 2018, marks the term
expiration for Marty, Pixie, and Dave. All three may re-apply, and continue on the
Commission.
New Business: 2018 RFCC Commission Activities: Ideas included working further
with the Dual Language School and giving a presentation to the teachers and students.
Rori suggested developing a geography of Costa Rica presentation for one of the
middle school classes. JoAnn suggested planning a presentation at one or more local
libraries. All agreed that future efforts must include the engagement and support of a
continued exchange with our Costa Rican partners.
Next Meeting: The Commission voted to cancel the December 21, 2017, meeting.
Therefore the next meeting will be 7:00 PM, Thursday, January 18, 2018. Richfield
Municipal Center, Heredia Room, 6700 Portland Avenue, Richfield, MN.
