The meeting was called to order at 7:18 by Chair, Ahmad Ansari.
Those in attendance: Ahmad Ansari, Pixie Pixler, JoAnn Boraas, Sharon Amegee, Mary Olafson, Dave
Delzer, Rori Coleman‐Woods, Cynthy Mandl (RFCC Ambassador), Jim Topitzhofer (staff liaison)
Absent, excused: Marty Kirsch
Absent: Hadiya Bakar
Approval of Minutes: Minutes of the September 15, 2016, meeting were approved as drafted.
Treasurer’s Report: Mary Olafson reported checking balance of $3459.92. Report approved.
Old Business: Heredia Park Sculpture Report – The committee reviewed photos provided by the
sculptor to Cynthy, showing the final touches being made to the sculpture. He plans for it to be shipped
by the end of October. After it arrives and is approved by the commission, payment will be made for the
materials and shipping. Purchasing an airline ticket for the sculptor to attend the dedication ceremony
was discussed since his time and services were donated to the project. The Costa Rican family who lived
in Plymouth until recently, and upon whom the girl sculpture’s features were based, now live in Dallas
and they have expressed to Cynthy their intent to attend the dedication ceremony as well, at their own
expense. Cynthy intends to be visiting them at the time of the November meeting, and may Facetime or
Skype in with them to the commission.
Sculpture Dedication Ceremony ‐ The subcommittee will meet to begin planning for the ceremony once
the sculpture has arrived. Cynthy did update the Arts Commission that the sculpture was not yet
completed and shipped.
Penn Fest Recap – Attendance was very good, and estimated to have been approx. 8000, compared to
5000‐7000 in previous years. Many attendees were interested in Costa Rica and the activities provided
at the tent. A letter of appreciation will be prepared for Dave Delzer’s son, Justin, who also participated.
New Business: Report to City Council – Ahmad will present the annual commission report to City
Council next week, including the year’s activities such as the RFCC trip to Costa Rica in March, and the
sculpture project. Cynthy will provide a photo of the sculpture and may also attend the meeting.
Human Rights Commission Survey – Jim provided hard copies of the demographics survey and collected
copies from those who chose to complete it.
RFCC Inventory – Cynthy has a list of items owned by the RFCC as of when they were moved from the
previous city hall building, as well as all that was in the garage at that time (summer/fall, 2011). She will
forward to Jim. Ahmad requested a monthly update from Mary on this ongoing inventory project.
Preferred meeting schedule – The commission voted to retain the current meeting date and time, the
3rd Thursday of the month, at 7:00 PM.
