The meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM by Chair, Ahmad Ansari.
Those in attendance: Ahmad Ansari, Marty Kirsch, Dave Delzer, JoAnn Boraas, Rori Coleman‐Woods,
Cynthy Mandl (RFCC Ambassador), Jim Topitzhofer (staff liaison)
Absent, excused: Mary Olafson, Pixie Pixler
Absent: Sharon Amegee, Hadiya Baker
Approval of Minutes: Minutes of the August 18, 2016 meeting were approved as drafted.
Treasurer’s Report:
Old Business: Heredia Park Sculpture – The sculpture will, per communication with Cynthy, be shipped
in October. An invoice to cover materials, shipping and other incidentals has been requested and the
preferred method for transferring the payment is still to be determined.
Sculpture Dedication Ceremony – The ceremony will be scheduled for spring, 2017. The
subcommittee established to plan the ceremony will be reiterated at the October meeting. Rori
volunteered to join the subcommittee. Our members, Mary & Dave, will meet further with members of
the Arts Commission.
PennFest – Jim provided an update that Penn Avenue will close Sunday, September 18, at 11:00,
the event is scheduled for 12:00‐4:00, and the street reopens at 5:00. Sarah Gumke from the Human
Rights Commission helped to produce a recruiting brochure for all commissions and this will be available
for use. Dave has already picked up the RFCC tent and 2 banners from the city garage, and will also
bring a table. He also will check with former member, Roger Swanson, on the location of a red oxcart
from Costa Rica, and a framed brass rubbing made by Cynthy of Boulevard Richfield, in Heredia. Both
items would enhance the RFCC tent. Ahmad and Rori will provide a soccer net and ball/s. Cynthy will
provide maps of Costa Rica. Rori is to get coloring pages, crayons, and the soccerball/s to Dave. It was
reported that Mary submitted a food application to the city, in order to again serve Costa Rican coffee at
the RFCC tent. The city will not allow coffee made in the homes of individuals to be served at PennFest.
Due to the complexity of brewing onsite (lack of electricity), it was decided to not offer coffee at this
year’s PennFest. Dave and Ahmad offered to do set up and, along with Rori, sporadic coverage of the
tent. They will also do the tear down at 4:00. Ahmad is to check with Pixie, Mary, Sharon & Hadiya
regarding their availability to participate. Marty and JoAnn are not available.
Next Meeting: Thursday, October 20, 2016, 7:00 PM
Richfield Municipal Center (Heredia Room), 6700 Portland Avenue
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:06 PM.
