2016-08 Friendship City Minutes Richfield Friendship City Commission Minutes August 18, 2016 @ 7PM The meeting was called to order by Vice Chairman Rori Coleman-Woods. Members in attendance were Mary Olafson, Pixie Pixler, Marty Kirsch, Dave Delzer, Cynthy Mandl, Rori Coleman-Woods and Hadiya Bakar(a new youth member), Jim Topitzhofer and Karen Shragg (staff liaisons). We were joined by Alex Dahl and Larry Nelson of the Arts Commission and by two of Rori’s sons. Ahmad Ansari, JoAnn Boraas and Sharon Amegee were not present but were excused. The minutes for July 21, 2016 were approved as read. The treasurer reported a balance of $3,459.63. A donation of $100 from Anne Romstad was acknowledged and is appreciated. Cynthy Mandl gave a report and showed pictures of the soccer sculpture being worked on by Guillermo Hernandez. The sculpture is of a young girl playing soccer and will be located in Heredia Park close outside the Heredia room where we meet. He is donating his expertise and time. The City of Richfield is paying for materials and for shipping. It is expected to be shipped shortly. When it arrives Jim Topitzhofer will receive it and will let the Dedication Subcommittee (made up of members of our commission and the Arts Commission) know of its arrival. Once it is here they will pick a date for the dedication, decide on the dedication agenda, refreshments, and prepare invitations to include local artists. There will be a simple ceremony at City Hall and a second event at Kirchbak Gardens to celebrate the Allianza sculpture being here sixteen years. The dedication will be next spring. We expect the sculptor and others from Heredia may attend. The next Arts Commission meeting is Sept 1 and our next meeting will be September 15. Pennfest is scheduled for September 18th. Our September meeting will be on the 15th. We expect the sculpture will be here by then and Jim Topitzhofer will inform us where we can meet and get a look at it. The Human rights Commission is proposing that the City Commissions share a tent together and/or have their displays near each other. We will plan on having our tent and our usual displays available and will give out free coffee. Cynthy has coffee available and we will reimburse her.
