The meeting was called to order at 7:05 by Chair, Ahmad Ansari.

Approval of Minutes: Minutes of the June 16, 2016, meeting were approved as drafted.
Treasurer’s Report: Checking account balance was $3359.50 as of June 30, 2016. The report
was accepted as provided in advance of the meeting by Treasurer, Mary Olafson.
Old Business:
Heredia Park Sculpture Report: The Costa Rican sculptor, Guillermo Hernandez, has
indicated that the sculpture will be completed by August 20, and that he will make
arrangements for shipment to Minnesota. “Sofia” is the sculpture’s name, as chosen by the
sculptor. He selected an “H” to be placed on the front of the girl’s soccer jersey, and “2” on the
back, to indicate the relationship between the two cities of Heredia and Richfield. The expense
to the City of Richfield will be for materials, shipping, and installation only, as the sculptor has
generously donated his time and efforts. Total cost is estimated to be $2500-$3000. The
sculpture will be cast in resin and weigh approximately 150 pounds. Pins on the bottom of the
sculpture will be set and glued in-house onto a concrete base, reported Jim. The sculpture
dedication will likely occur in early-October. Dave will update the Arts Commission regarding
the sculpture completion date and invite interested members to attend the RFCC August
meeting.
Richfield SunCurrent article: The July 14 article reporting on the March delegation’s trip
to Costa Rica was unanimously viewed as complete and well-done. The RFCC anticipates 2
additional articles this year, one in advance of the dedication ceremony and one to follow it.
Ahmad suggested that the prededication article also be used to recruit for unfilled RFCC
positions.
