It was really busy, and all of the kids enjoyed it. School staff thanked us for providing the acƟvity as a fun break from being in the dance. The oil pastels were a hit! 2025 PrioriƟzed AcƟviƟes Art in our Schools: CollaboraƟng on Arts experiences with Richfield Schools o Sheridan Hills – Stephanie J will reach out. o Middle School – Aric will connect with them. o High School Senior Art Show – want to do this again on May 1st. This is the same night as our May meeƟng and Toast to Richfield. Jill will ask the High School if May 8 th would work instead, and also look into moving RAC’s May meeƟng to another night so members can aƩend Toast to Richfield instead. Art in our Community: UpdaƟng RAC Public Art Tour materials Richfield Arts Commission (RAC) Agenda March 6, 2025 | 7:00 PM Richfield Community Center | 7000 Nicollet, Richfield, MN o SubcommiƩee met virtually Thursday, February 27, 2025 at 7 PM to discuss. ChrisƟna did a great job puƫng together a draŌ of the brochure, using a larger font, color coding, and a more clear layout. o Things to consider: tesƟng colors to make sure they are accessible for color blindness, list whether art displays are accessible, and have brochures available in mul Ɵple languages o AddiƟonal ideas: Add color coding to the Map Key, Add some differenƟator between Ɵtles and arƟst (ex: bold), Add a QR Code, Add the year the brochure was updated; Change “Public Art Tour” on the cover to white so it’s easier to read.  Art in our Community: Earth Day Event o Park cleanup and acƟviƟes – April 26th from 1:00 – 4 PM at the Community Center o RAC would be part of the resource fair. Other groups will be having seed balls and recycled newspaper vase projects. o AcƟvity: Mobiles made with natural materials  Ann moƟoned to approve this acƟvity, Aric seconded, all in favor  Stephanie E will bring yarn to use.  Choose a date at the April meeƟng to pick up natural materials at Wood Lake.  Art in our Community: Pride Roundabout Maintenance o Purple and Green colors  May 4 – Aric, Ann, Lucas, John, Janie, Stephanie E, Stephanie J  May 10 - Ann, Lucas, John, Janie, Stephanie J  May 17 (backup) - Aric, Ann, Lucas, John, Janie, Stephanie E, Stephanie J  Art in our Community: Summer Farmers Markets o June 21 o July 19 o August 2: Host Author Event in the building at Veterans Park during the Farmers Market. Will discuss forming a subcommiƩee at April meeƟng.  AcƟvity: Create magazine word poetry. Cut words out of headlines in magazines and create poetry from them.  Idea: Invite authors from previous authors event. If they want to read an excerpt, it can be pre-approved by RAC. o Ideas for projects: Painted rocks, seed art, vegetable stamping  Art in our Community: Nature Area Poetry Walk – Mississippi Valley Poets & Writers o Theme: Nature o Poems can be submiƩed unƟl April 15th at hƩps://leagueofmnpoet.submiƩable.com/submit o August 16 is the Kickoff Event for new poems. RAC would like to have a presence at that event.  Art in our Community: Entertainment in the Park o Parks and Rec now run the entertainment at the Bandshell at Veterans Park  Concerts are on Tuesdays at 11 AM (June 17 through August 5)  Evening Shows are on Tuesdays at 6:30 PM (June 10 through August 12)  We will choose 1 June and 1 July date to host an acƟvity. AddiƟonal AcƟviƟes and Ideas  Nicollet Redesign: might be best to consider something aŌer construcƟon is complete in 2026. There will be a public pre-construcƟon open house in 2025.  Wood Lake construcƟon: there are planned areas for art in the new building (behind front desk, in lounge, conference room). Could be room in the budget for addiƟonal art features. Ongoing AcƟviƟes  LiƩle Free Library – keep checking on it when we have Ɵme. Time to bring back the book drive to get more books. April meeƟng, bring boxes in to re-decorate.  Art Displays – New display from the Fireside Poets for March and April (NaƟonal Poetry Month) at the Community Center Staff Updates  Woodlake project has been delayed a bit and the current building is sƟll open, so staff haven’t moved over to the Community Center yet.  Summer program registraƟon opened on March 3rd and is going well. RegistraƟon has increased so far since last year.  Summer jobs are posted – lifeguard, pool posiƟons, playground posiƟons. All farmers market staff are returning. Janie will do research on purchasing craŌ paper to use as table coverings. Will revisit ordering more oil pastels in the future for projects.
