In attendance: Aric Bieganek (Chair), Stephanie Eaton (Secretary), John Blackshear,
Stephanie Jacobson, Lucas Smith, Janie Mork, BJ Skoog (CSC Liaison), Jill Murphy (City
Liaison)
Absent: Ann Bieganek, Sharon Christiansen (City Council Liaison)
Administrative Duties
• Call to Order at 7:04 PM
• Approval of Agenda: SJ moved, JM seconded, all in favor
• Approval of Minutes: SE motion, AB seconded, all in favor
• Budget Update: $1377.81 remaining
• Supplies Updates/Research
o Kid scissors: AB motion to spend up to $75 to purchase, JM seconded, all in
favor
o Markers: SJ motion to spend up to $75, AB seconded, all in favor
• Branding & Placemaking Advisory Committee update (JB): last meeting was in
person, completed a placemaking survey about Richfleld and comparable areas,
online survey will be coming, along with one-on-one conversations and focus
groups.
• Arts Commissions Bylaws Update: Reviewed the bylaws, and will be electing new
Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary for 2026. The bylaws do not mention volunteering
requirements, but that’s an area to think about.
• City Council Presentation: Monday, November 10 or Tuesday, October 28. AB and SE
will attend to present.
2025 Previous Activities
• Art in our Community: State of the Community on June 11: Was a lot of fun and
had a lot of participation! Arts Commission was mentioned in Mayor Supple’s
speech, which was cool.
• Art in our Community: Summer Farmers Market
o July 19 – Painting with natural materials: Fun! Location wasn’t ideal, but it
went well overall.
o August 2 – Author Event: It was awesome! Made a word poetry mural. It was
popular with adults as well as children. Will discuss what to do with mural
after it’s completed.
• Art in our Community: Entertainment in the Park
o Evening show: Jazz on the Prairie – June 17– not a lot of participation, but it
was fun.
o Kids concert: Womens Drum Circle – July 22 - had fun, made about 15
tambourines.
2025 Prioritized Activities
• Art in our Community: Art Walk Brochure
o The city staff translated the brochure and created a Spanish version.
• Art in our Community: Pride Roundabout Maintenance
o Next round: Saturdays September 6 and 13th at 7 AM, Red and blue paint – we
have 1 can of each
▪ Discuss at September meeting what colors we want to purchase next
year.
▪ AB made a motion to spend up to $300 on paint for September
painting if needed. JB seconded, all in favor.
o Fiber workers spray painted on the roundabout. Will look into when that
project is done and discuss when we should touch that up.
• Art in our Community: List of Local Authors: no update
• Art in our Community: Nature Area Poetry Walk – Mississippi Valley Poets & Writers
o New date: August 23, 6 PM. John and Stephanie J will attend and volunteer if
needed.
• Art in our Community: PennFest, September 21 from 1-5 PM
o Volunteer shifts:
▪ 12:30 – 3 PM; Stephanie J and Lucas
▪ 3-5:15: Stephanie E and Janie
o Continue the Richfleld word art mural.
o AB motioned to spend up to $30 to mount mural on foam core, SJ seconded,
all in favor.
• Art in our Community: Great Pumpkin Giveaway – Sat Oct 11, 10 AM – 12 PM
o Provide trophies and gift cards, and attend event with coloring contest
activity.
o We will be provided with more space at the event this year.
o SE will reach out to local designer to see if she is willing to design the
coloring sheet.
o Open to discussion about how to present trophies. RAC is fiexible.
• Art in the Community: Winter Planter Decorating
o Think about creating a new sign that says RAC created them. Jill will check
with Bonnie about helping again this year.
• Art in our Schools:
o Richfield Dual Language School
▪ Friendship Dance: February 6, 6-8 PM
▪ Plan for this at November meeting
o Sheridan Hills
▪ Stephanie J will reach out to them to see if they’d like us at their
October or November events.
Ongoing Activities
• Little Free Library
o Need book donations – put a box in the hockey arena for the winter
o There is no longer a RAC sign on the library, so we should think about
purchasing a RAC plaque to attach to the library. Look into ordering from
Broadway Awards.
o Once the electronic version of the art map is created, it would be cool to
create a QR code on the library to link to it.
• Discussed purchasing a brochure stand to use at events.
• Art Displays: a call for artists will be included in the Fall program guide.
• Utility box: will replace the wrap with the 66th & Penn with the photo contest winner
we voted on at last meeting. Jill will reach out to the photographer.
o Discuss at next meeting if we want to do another photo contest to wrap
another box next summer.
CSC Updates
• Wood Lake – flnalizing design, demo. Construction should start beginning of
September.
• Figuring out priorities and other behind the scenes work
• Solar panels for the public works building and ice arena
• Scope of work for pool has been presented to city council
• Hoping to have new community center design work done in 2027, to be built
2029/2030.
Mural: Aric and Jill met with a representative from the Bricksmore company (Emily) that
owns the Hub area. New grocery store in the Hub is supposed to open in September.
Bricksmore reached out to us about being thought partners on some murals on the building
– 3 large square panels.
