2024-02 Arts Minutes (2) Administrative Duties Call to Order at 7:01 PM by Aric Approval of Agenda: Janie motioned, Stephanie E seconded, all approved Approval of Minutes: Stephanie J motioned, Janie seconded, all approved Welcome to returning and new RAC members (Cheryl and Annie) Updated RAC Contact List – Karl will compile Final budget details – used all of 2023’s budget, and have a $1500 budget for 2024 Vote on Positions: Chair/Co-Chairs: Aric and Stephanie J Secretary: Stephanie E Ongoing Activities RAC – Overview of Activities and Responsibilities Meetings are held the 1st Thursday of each month from 7:00 – 8:30 PM at the Community Center New ideas/goal setting – how do we want to collaborate in 2024? Discussed being more involved with the nature center, how to incorporate public art into new transportation plan, and exploring grant opportunities Painting the Pride Roundabout With last year’s budget, one pail of paint in each color was purchased. We will paint in the Spring. BJ will follow up with the contact at the paint store re: donating supplies Little Free Library Annie will check and fill it with books she has Discussed doing a book drive to get more books for the little library, with an emphasis on books in languages besides English. Discussed designing a flyer and decorating boxes at next meeting. Aric motioned to move forward with the book drive, Stephanie J seconded, all approved Updating RAC materials – Art Walk Brochure Reviewed the current brochure. The previous designer is willing to make an updated version. At next meeting, we will split up the list to review and take photos of the art pieces. Inventory of Supplies Stephanie J volunteered to take an inventory of RAC’s current supplies Nov. – Dec. 2023 Activities November Dual Language School event -November 10 – Recap This went really well and want to do more activities with the schools in Richfield. November Authors event November 18 – Recap There was a good variety of authors and an ok turnout. Discussed doing it alongside the winter market next year. Winter Market Planter Decorations Received positive feedback. Aric will pick up the remaining decorations. Karl will inquire with the city about disposal of the trees. Community Services Commission Update BJ provided an update that there has been a good turnout of winter events lately. There is currently a food drive with the food collected going to VEAP. Play Days at the Community Center have been growing – there were 140 people who attended in January! Other upcoming items are the local sales tax on the November ballot to fund community items, and RFP that is out for Donaldson Park, the Rec Manager position and two more Parks & Rec positions are posted, and Red, White, and Blue days is back. Upcoming Events/Activities High School Seniors’ Art Show Will host this at the community center again in May Connecting with other Schools to bring a RAC activity to one of their events Will start with the elementary schools. Stephanie J will reach out to Sheriden Hills, Annie will reach out to STEM. 2024 Farmers Market Ideas Chose dates to attend this summer: June 15th, July 13th, and August 17th Will discuss activities as the dates get closer Stephanie E made a motion, Janie seconded, all approved Electrical Box Wraps The photo contest is currently happening Art Displays- community center, city hall Scheduled through July Staff Update City is currently hiring for summer positions, and promoting youth spots on commissions. New commissioner training is coming up, and Karl will send out the dates. New at the Farmer’s Market this summer – can buy CSA shares and have delivered. New Edina Art Center will be at the new Southdale Library, and there is the potential for RAC to do some programming there. Meeting adjourned at 8:28 PM
