Richfield Arts Commission (RAC) Meeting Minutes

Administrative Duties
● Call to Order - 7:02 pm
● Approval of Agenda - Motion (Lucas), 2nd (Ann), All in favor
● Approval of Minutes - Motion (Janie), 2nd (Aric), All in favor
● Budget update - $250.71 remaining
Previous Activities Updates
● Art in our Community: Roundabout Painting is complete! Second coat of red and orange is done,
and we have 2 cans of each other color for next year. At February meeting, choose 4 dates for
next year to do the next round of painting.
● Art in our Community: Pumpkin Giveaway was very well attended! Used up all 150 coloring
sheets. The trophies were great, and the winners will receive them at the November 12 city
council meeting.
● Art in our Schools: STEM Movie Night was amazing! We went through ~250 plates to create
emoji faces. The kids were engaged throughout the entire movie.
● City Council Presentation went well! The council liked the idea of Art in our Schools and Art in
our Community. Discussed expanding to charter schools. Aric will share the presentation slides
with the committee.
● PennFest Contacts: Will connect with each contact and let them know we reconvene in February
and can discuss collaboration.
○ Young Builders & Designers – Aric has contacted him and will invite to February meeting.
○ Sidewalk/Street Artist – Janie will contact.
○ Landsby Property Manager – John will contact.
○ Posters on Board – Stephanie E will contact.
○ Tod Pod – Ann is in contact.
Upcoming Activities
● Art in our Schools: Collaborating on Arts experiences with Richfield Schools
○ Sheridan Hills
■ John has not heard back. Stephanie J will reach out to her contact.
○ Dual Language
■ Glow event on February 7th
■ Motion to use remaining budget after purchase of winter planter supplies (Aric),
Second (Stephanie J), All in favor.
○ Middle School
● Art in our Community: Updating RAC materials
■ Jill will send the Sharepoint link to the commission. Then we will work with the
designer and city.
● Art in our Community: Authors Event: Saturday, November 23rd from 3-5 pm (setup at 2 PM)
○ 14 authors are signed up, 1 more maybe.
○ Ann has created a schedule for readings to start at 3:10 PM with a 5 minute maximum.
○ The activity will be decorating bookmarks, which have been purchased.
○ Will be promoted in Richfield communications and social media.
● Art in our Community: Winter Planter Decorations
○ Wednesday, November 20 from 4-6 PM
■ Motion to purchase up to $200 of winter planter supplies (Stephanie E), Second
(Aric), All in favor
■ Items to bring:
● garden gloves
● trowels
● watering can
● garden clippers
● scissors
● wire cutters
● apron, if desired
● any additional non-religious seasonal decorations, such as
pinecones, seed pods, dried flowers, ribbons, ornaments, or
weather-proof festive arts/crafts
Ongoing Activities
Little Free Library - Book Drive can end now. Stephanie J will pick up the box at Woodlake and stock
the library.
Art at the Community Center - the next artist will be setting up soon. No artists lined up after
that, so share the word.
Community Services Commission Update
Rival All 3 tax increase votes passed this election. Lots of planning and updates to come.
Madison Park warming house will be open this winter. Donaldson Park building planning is
underway. Splash pad is underway as well. Working on a shade structure by the bandshell, but it
has been delayed.
Staff Updates
Winter programming brochure is going out soon. Fall and winter boutiques will be starting.
