Richfield Arts Commission (RAC) Mee�ng Minutes

Call to Order at 7:03 PM
Approval of Agenda: LC mo�ons to approve, JM seconds, all in favor
Approval of Minutes: SJ mo�ons to approve, AricB seconds, all in favor
Ordering RAC T-shirts: Working with the city to order more. Will get quotes and vote on the order at
next mee�ng.
Budget update: Have approximately $1200 remaining, will get exact amount for next mee�ng.
Wood Lake Nature Center Earth Day Event: Was a fantas�c event! Made wildflower bombs, which went
well. Great weather, lots of fun!
Art in our Schools
• High School Seniors’ Art Show: May 7 th from 5 -7 PM at Community Center. Art will be on display
through the end of May.
• Dual Language Carnival: May 17th from 6-8 PM
o Ac�vi�es: Marble pain�ng & pipe cleaner flowers. We purchased the supplies, so we’re
all set. JB will bring more paper to use.
o Arrive by 5:45 PM to set up.
• Centennial: Their spring Cougar Carnival is from 4-6:30 PM on Thursday, May 23rd
o SE, SC, AricB, and AnnieB can atend. We’ll do marble pain�ng and pipe cleaner flowers
as an ac�vity. AnnieB will bring a canvas drop cloth if she has one.
• Sheridan Hills: JB got in touch with their principal, who suggested reaching out again in the fall.
They have an event during the year in collabora�on with The Works.
Art in our Community
• RAC Public Art Catalog
o Doing well on this project. Have approximately 70% done, so we’ll con�nue to visit the
loca�ons and take photos.
o We’ll be migra�ng our documents from here onto a SharePoint site provided by the City.
• Summer 2024 Farmer’s Market
o June 15th: Marble pain�ng Seed bombs
SJ, SE, JM, SC, CG, JB, LS can atend
o July 13th: Pipe cleaner jewelry Marble pain�ng
o August 17th: Vegetable stamping
Addi�onal Ac�vi�es/Ideas
• TBD – Illusion Theater is trying to get grant funding to do performances at Lyndale
Amphitheater, which we could be a part of. No addi�onal details currently.
• June – State of the Community: June 11th from 5 -6:30 PM | more details to come
• June – Juneteenth Event: June 19th from 12-4 PM, Freedom Walk starts at 11 AM | Details are
being planned, more to come on how RAC can help.
• July – 4th of July Events: 2 days of ac�vi�es – car show and dance party on July 3rd; Pancake
breakfast, parade, booths in the park, and fireworks on July 4th.
o Most RAC members will not be available these days. Will revisit at next mee�ng.
• September – Pennfest: September 15th from 1-5 PM| Food vendors have been finalized – total
of 23 this year. More details to come.
• October – Great Pumpkin Giveaway: October 12th
• November – Authors Event: Will reach out to the History Center to discuss partnering on this
event.
Pride Roundabout Maintenance: June 15th & 16th at 6 AM
• We have enough people available to keep these dates.
• Orange and yellow are the first colors to repaint.
• BJ will ask the Sherwin Williams store about dona�ng a few larger paint trays. LS will
bring leaf blower.
Litle Free Library: AnnieB will check on it this month.
Book Drive: Will decorate boxes at the end of this mee�ng. JB will have a flyer designed by the end of
this weekend.
Photo Contest: Ge�ng a lot of submissions. It closes at the end of this month, so we’ll be able to vote on
them at next mee�ng.
Electrical Box Wraps: Wai�ng to replace wraps on Nicollet due to upcoming construc�on. Will check on
others, including on Lyndale.
Art Displays: All set in the Community Center for the year. Displays are City Hall are on hold un�l a new
Rec Manager starts – currently s�ll ships.
4th of July T-Shirt Decora�ng Contest: Deadline is May 4th, spread the word! Karl sent out this
informa�on via email.
Hennepin County Grant planning – closes in April, so we would be applying for 2025. Karl will send out
the link to the grant website.
• Mural: engaging with local youth to create a mural on the west side of Body Techs Rx Wellness
building. AricB will connect with them. Body Techs is having a health & wellness open house on
May 18th from 10 AM – 4 PM, which would be a good �me to get to know them.
Community Services Commission Update
• A grant was submited to Hennepin Co for Donaldson Park playground.
• The city has commited $15,000 in fee assistance so far, and $5400 has been given out.
• Buildings at Madison, Washington, and Jefferson Parks have been opened up for rental spaces -
$64 for 4 hours.
• Did a bunch of park cleanups around the city for Earth Day.
• Spread the word about the local sales tax change that will be on the November ballot. The funds
from this increase would go to building a new Community Center, Woodlake project, pool
upgrades, and ice arena upgrades. www.ourlegacyourfuture.org
• Unity in the Community is August 15th from 4-7 PM.
Staff Update
• Woodlake Nature Center is doing their open house on May 13th from 4 -7 PM – all are welcome
to hear more about the project and share your thoughts. Just finished the Wetland delinea�on
today.
• Reorganized supplies at the Community Center. RAC supplies are now on the 2 botom shelves in
the closet.
• Jill Murphy is star�ng as the Rec Manager on May 13th. She’s worked for Bloomington her en�re
career. She’ll atend the June mee�ng.
• At the Farmers Market this year, online ordering with home deliver is available. CSA boxes can be
ordered either for pickup or $5 delivery.
