Call to Order & Attendance at 6:33 by PERSON 2. Approval of Agenda Motion: 1st /2nd Callmie/Mara 3. Approval of Minutes Motion: 1st /2nd Karole/Mara 4. Reports Chair’s report None (absent) Vice Chair’s report Will be interim chair in Tyler’s absence Secretary's report None School Board None (absent) City Council/Liaisons Election coming up – potential new liaisons Public Safety Liaison report Officer recently won a statewide award- working with BCA on financial crimes Citizen’s police academy 2025: 2/20-3/27 on Thursdays 6-9 pm, registration open soon 6. New Business A. City presentation on sales tax proposal B. Penn Fest C. Outreach and Engagement Sub- Committee D. Commissioner Meeting in New Brighton E. Legal Aid Clinic F. Work plan A. $80 million plan to support investments at Wood Lake, Veterans Park, Community Center. Three funding streams- 0.5% local sales tax on November ballot (funding $65 million). New sales tax would be the same as in Bloomington and Edina. Three separate questions on ballot B. Gathered contact information, had good engagement and conversations C. First meeting last week, no public attendees. Initial discussion around direction of committee, short and long-term goals. Could Richfield send out postcards to publicize commission meetings/openings? Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid is interested in coming to an upcoming meeting to provide an overview of new laws taking effect 1/1/2025 Richfield Human Rights Commission: October 1, 2024 Meeting Minutes Approved 2 D. Mike and Tiffany attended, connected with immigration attorney. Several commissions have programming related to MLK Day. Gained insight into engaging with youth/young adult commissioners. E. Tim will lead planning. New date: 11/22/2024 at the Richfield community center. Room is reserved 12-4, event will take place 1- 4pm. F. Brittany will send sustainability commission’s work plan to review as template for 2025 planning and investigate creating a city- managed drive/folder to replace HRC Google Drive 7. Old Business A. Indigenous Peoples Day Proclamation school group acceptance B. Legal Aid Kiosk Engagement Ideas C. City of Northfield Human Rights Commission D. Council presentation E. Book of the Year Update F. Immigration Citizenship Event A. Building connections with school groups ideal before presenting proclamations (Beacons, etc) B. Remove from old business C. Confirmed for 10/23: Brittany, Karole, Val, Mike. D. Tiffany will present to city council. All commissioners to provide input, using last year’s presentation as a template E.
