Call to Order & Attendance 6:35 after determining a quorum was present by Glubka 2. Approval of Agenda Motion to approve 1st / 2nd Flake / Goodemote Unanimous approval by Commission 3. Approval of Minutes Motion to approve 1st / 2nd Olson/Flake Unanimous approval by Commission 4. Open Public Comment Anyone who is not on the agenda who would like to address the Commission on items not on the agenda. No additions 5. Reports Chair’s report Mara Glubka 1. Welcomed everyone to our 1st in person meeting of 2021. Member reintroduced themselves 2. Conversion therapy ban will be introduced to council at work meeting on Tuesday a. Process: i. New Business A. 2021 Work Plan See update plan for volunteers etc.: May RHRC DRAFT 2021 Work Plan.docx - Google Docs Indigenous People Day Celebration Kris to connect with Sarah Jesperson – Richfield School outreach Proclamations ADA Proclamation draft reviewed: ADA proclamation.docx - Google Docs Action: • Move to send proclamation to Council for August proclamation 1st / 2nd Olson/Burk • Invited RDAP to presentation • Ostendorf and Flake plan to attend Pride Month a. Draft proclamation reviewed: LGBTQIA Proclamation - Google Docs Richfield Human Rights Commission June 1, 2021 Meeting Minutes 2 Action: • Move to send proclamation to Council Motion to 1st / 2nd Ostendorf / Olson Future proclamations • to have at least 2 months for development and sending to council. • Coordinate with DEI Calendar Penn Fest • Marla may have a tent for use • Consider having information on voting and Racial Covenants in Richfield Partnerships in community • Hold for new DEI individual to start Outstanding Citizen of year • Request to be given in August prior to council meeting • Chief Deputy Flaherty to notify recipient • Reception to be held in foyer • Tiffany and Kris to work on food and coordinating event with Flaherty and Susie Kalmi, Sr Office Assistant Racial Covenants Further discussions will continue with prior chair of HRC Legal clinic Potential topics • Family law • Immigration • Consumer • Housing Consider having in community setting such as Season Park Action: Burke to develop summary for discussion B. Ranked choice voting / Voter access initiative: • New York article identified complexities of the system • Based on a plurality system vs. a majority system • Richfield unable to go to this system unless MN allows • Voices are being heard in Richfield • Access is more important currently • Tyler will check on what is happening in the MN state legislation Action: Motion to table to 2022 1st / 2nd Olson/ Burke C. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)calendar Tasha to send information from her work on a DEI calendar (see below) Announcements RDAP partnership • Housing inclusive policy addresses both accessibility and affordability which is unique for Richfield • Advocating for waste pickup to address accessibility and affordability needs of the community. It may not be complete but can be a starting place to plan for future proclamations. • African American History Month (February) • National African American History Month in February celebrates the contributions that African Americans have made to American history in their struggles for freedom and equality and deepens our understanding of our Nation's history. • American Indian Heritage Month (November) • National American Indian Heritage Month celebrates and recognizes the accomplishments of the peoples who were the original inhabitants, explorers, and settlers of the United States. • Asian Pacific Heritage Month (May) • Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month is a month to celebrate the contributions Asian/Pacific Americans have made to American history, society, and culture. • Constitution Day and Citizenship Day (September 17) • Constitution Day and Citizenship Day is observed each year on September 17 to commemorate the signing of the Constitution on September 17, 1787, and “recognize all who, by coming of age or by naturalization, have become citizens.” • Human Rights Day (December 10) • Human Rights Day is observed each year to commemorate the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) by the United Nations General Assembly on December 10, 1948. • Irish-American Heritage Month (March) • Irish-American Heritage Month is a month to celebrate the contributions which Irish-Americans have made to the United States. • Jewish American Heritage Month (May) • Jewish American Heritage Month is a month to celebrate the contributions Jewish Americans have made to America since they first arrived in New Amsterdam in 1654. • Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Pride Month (June) • Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Pride Month commemorates the events of June 1969 and works to achieve equal justice and equal opportunity for LGBTQ Americans. • National Disability Employment Awareness Month (October) • National Disability Employment Awareness Month celebrates the accomplishments in the workplace of persons with disabilities and reaffirms the commitment to ensuring equal employment opportunities to all citizens. • National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 - October 15) • National Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates and recognizes the contributions Hispanic Americans have made to American society and culture and to honor five of our Central American neighbors who celebrate their Independence days in September. • Women's History Month (March) • Women’s History Month honors and celebrates the struggles and achievements of American women throughout the history of the United States.
