RAC 2.5.15Richfield Arts Commission Meeting Minutes Thursday, February 5, 2015 7 p.m. in the Community Center http://www.cityofrichfield.org/officials/Commissions/arts.htm Commission Members present: Kevin Klos, Pete Dysart, Alex Dahl, Quoc Tran, Linda Vigen, Kelly Johnsen, Lisa Rudolph, Larry Nelson, Dan Mlynarek Absent - Excused: Constantina Watters, Jackie Mihalik, Sarah Nelson, Natalie Madgy Community Service Commission Liaison present: Michele Thompson City Liaison present: MaryKaye Champa Respectfully Submitted, Linda Vigen, Secretary of the RAC Agenda Item Presenter Discussion Action, if any Call to order Meeting called to order at 7:03 p.m. New members Kevin Introductions – Larry Nelson and Natalie Madgy (absent) Sweet Streets Mike Eastling Public Works Presented city plans for street maintenance and upgrades along with the possibility of art or sculptures if roundabouts were selected at major intersections. RAC could assist in procurement of art items if adequate funding was provided to us Portland Ave. Sidewalk Poetry Project Geoff Martin Kimley Horn Presented an opportunity for the Arts Commission to be involved in bringing poetry pavers along the sidewalks of Portland Avenue. Poems needed by May/June. Alex, Lisa, and Kelly to represent RAC at future public works meetings. Tacky Art Fundraiser Anthony Bradford Woodlake Nature Center Board Woodlake would like assistance from RAC for Woodlake’s annual fundraiser in September. RAC to help with posters and host tacky art making event during our Saturday Farmer’s Market days. November minutes Minutes approved Report from City Liaison MaryKaye Coral Reef crochet event was a success. RAC future meetings will be held at City Hall’s Heredia Room effective March 2015 – safety concerns cited as reason. New Business - Annual Elections Kevin Kevin’s term has ended – election held and Alex is the new chair/ Linda is new Secretary. New Member Orientation is February 18th at Municipal Center – Barthomew Room from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Mobile Art Display Kevin RAC received the grant from the Richfield Foundation for a portable display for future RAC events. Upcoming events Cracked Walnut Literary Event to be held Tuesday May 5th at 7 p.m./Father’s Day – Shakespere group coming back Misc. Discussions held : do we want to keep the Newsletter with Jackie leaving the Commission, we still need to keep an online media presence, stocking the Little Library Quoc volunteered to be the liason for RAC online media with John Evans/ Kelly will check on the Little Library as she lives nearby RAC Art Circuit Update MaryKaye Municipal Center Dec 2014, Jan and Feb 2015 Penny Link Community Center Jan and Feb 2015 Gene Terres, May and June 2015 – Farewell to Falwell -30 years of Willie Falwell Continue to recruit future showings-Many spots still open during March and April. Farewell/Welcome MaryKaye Treats were brought in for Kevin and Jackie’s last day and to welcome new members Larry and Natalie Adjourn The meeting was adjourned at 9:55 p.m.
