Standing Reports
Art Display‐ Mia‐ Currently both the display case at City Hall and the space at the Community Center
are empty. Mia has reached out to Willie but has not heard back. The elementary school kids art work
will go into the community center in December. Mia with check with County Commissioner Debbie
Goettel to see if she may be aware of artists from her last open house who might want their work
displayed.
RAC Events‐ Larry‐ We had our last RAC event of the year at the Art Center on October 14th. we had over
70 people attend for our edible art event. Even though it was well attended most families appeared to
be there due to other activities going on in the park. If we are going to continue RAC events next year
we may need new space due to losing the current Art Center space. Marykaye is going to look into
whether or not the new tenants will be open to us using the space for events. Marykaye also pointed
out that we will need to get rid of some of the stands, and counters etc. She is going to check into resale
options for some of the pieces there.
Little Library‐ Larry‐ Due to several community donations the Library is good at the moment. There
should not be a need to do a book drive for several months.
Staff Report‐Marykaye‐ talked about the elementary art display starting in the Community Center going
in mid‐December. Also mentioned that Heathers mom passed away.
New Business:
Leadership and events in 2018‐ This is Heathers last year on the Commission. We will need a new chair
in 2018. We cannot elect a new chair until the February meeting but people should be thinking about it
now. In addition to a chair we will need at least two new adult and two youth members in 2018.
Now is also the time to start thinking about what we want the Commission to work on in 2018. One
idea was reaching back out to Paige Dansinger who gave a presentation on her augmented at our June
meeting to see if there is some sort project we can work on with her. Other ideas included, doing some
type of programs at the band shell once it is ready, doing more programing for teens like a teen poetry
slam, doing a paint and brew event at a local brewery and working with the youth dance group. There
will be more discussion at February meeting
Announcements
The next Arts Commission Happy Hour with Artists will be on Wednesday November from 5pm‐7pm at
Houlihan’s. Alex said he can be there this month. Marykaye will check to see if arraignments had been
made for an announcement to go out on the city Facebook page about the Happy Hour
The Arts Commission is scheduled to give a presentation to the City Council on November 14th about
commission activities in 2017 and needs for 2018. Marykaye will check to see if Heather had anything
prepared for the presentation. Mia said she can fill in for Heather if needed and Alex said he can help
Mia put together a presentation.
