Penn Fest –Sunday September 16th from 12pm‐5pm. Plan is to highlight the Poetry on Portland as a way
to let people know that we will be looking for submissions for 66th street as well. We will display the
poetry submissions we used on Portland and some of the kids from Joyce’s group will do a live poetry
reading. We will also have two people there doing face painting.
A motion was made and passed to spend up to $500 to use to pay face painters and other needed
supplies for Pennfest.
66th Street Project‐ There was some discussion such around what materials we need to have in place to
both for the 66th Street project before we start looking for poetry submissions. Probably need to get
word out that we are looking for submissions late spring. Prior to that we need to put together
guidelines decide how we are going to get word out to the community. Some tasks that we will need to
do is to reach out to the schools and local poetry groups for submissions. Also need to decide things like
is there going to be a separate category for children’s poetry. We will also need to decide what the
process will be for accepting and reviewing submissions.
Art Fund Status‐ Joyce and Jim did presentation to city council. The presentation seemed to go well.
Department budgets still need to be submitted and approved by city council. We will not know if the
council approved our request for additional funding until that process is complete.
Standing Reports
Annual Activity Calendar – Mia will put together a calendar of important events and dates for the Arts
Commission.
Little Library‐ the Richfield Art Center space is gone. The Little Library is still there and the books are at
the community center for now. Due to space issues Marykaye will not be to keep the books at the
community center. At this time it was decided that the library would go in the garden by the band shell
next spring .Marykaye may be able to keep a smaller supply of books under her desk.
Chelsea will go through the current selection of books and for now Marykaye will hold onto whatever
Chelsea does not get rid of.
At this point in the meeting a motion was made and passed to extend meeting for an additional 15
minutes.
Artists Resource Group‐ Tom did start a Facebook for local artists. The group will be used to share
information about opportunities for artists and allow artists to promote their work. It could also be used
to promote in person meet and greats with artists.
Farmers Market Event‐The last Farmers Market event of the year will be Saturday October 13th from 9
30 AM to 11 30 AM. We will be again doing edible art and will be turning cupcakes into witches. At this
point we are still planning to do the event out of the former art center. Back up options include either
out doors at the farmers market or the community center. Marykaye will adjust the number of cupcakes
depending on location.
Staff Report‐Marykaye
Markaye said that the art center had to be emptied out quickly. We did get a $50 donation for some
items in the former art center. We were also able to save the bicycle sculpture.
There will be an open house for the current artist in the community center on Sunday October 21st form
7pm‐9pm at the community center
