Sidewalk Initiate/ Poetry on 66th:
Mia sent letters to Marykaye and letters were sent out to both those selected and not selected. We
have received replies from 10 people. All have had positive feedback.
Construction – All the poems are to the street people and are still on track to go in prior to July.
Invites‐ We need to send out an official invitation to local officials we want to attend the event on July
13th. Those include the Mayor and City Council as well as former Mayor Pat Elliot, County Commissioner
Debbie Goettel, and our local State House and State Senate reps. Jeff said he will take care of that.
Marketing‐ In addition to having an announcement in the city summer bulletin we talked about making
sure the event is on the city Facebook page, having fliers we can put up around the city, doing a press
release to the local paper and possibly have it on the digital signs in front of city hall and Veterans Park.
Event/Planning. Joyce is still working on details for the event itself. We are thinking of having some
music both before and to close the event and having someone (possibly the Mayor) do a welcome. Joyce
will work on details and a schedule for our poetry event.
We will need balloons and some type of sound system with a microphone.
Little Library Event
The Richfield Rotary will be doing an event at the former art center in Veterans Park on Saturday May
11th from 8 30‐ around 11. They will be putting together Little Libraries that people had bid on. The
Rotary will be donating a new Little Library to the Arts Commission. Commission members have been
encouraged to attend the Rotary event to thank them for the donation. Both Larry and Mia have said
they would be interested in attending.
Marykaye will check with Malt Tees to see if they want to take over the current arts commission library
near them or if another commission is interested in taking it over.
Penn Fest Planning
Penn Fest will again take place in September. The Human Rights Commission might be willing to share a
table with our commission. Karin will be willing to coordinate but will not be able to attend the day of
the event.
Staff Report‐Marykaye
The electrical box on 70th and Nicollet may be wrapped. The city wants the arts commission to decide
what the wrap should look like. One of the pictures from Cynhi from the Friendship City Commissions
trip to Costa Rica was selected for the electrical box wrap.
Jeff has been in contact with the Teen Librarian from the Augsburg Park Library. Marykaye has $50 gift
card ready to go. The gift card will go to winner selected by the arts commission.
There will be an open house where winners will be announced at Augsburg Park Library on May 19th
from 1‐3. Judges meet on the 18th from 10‐1 to vote. The show is open May1st to the 30th. RAC
members are encouraged to stop by prior to judging and give Jeff input on who he should select.
The pool mural is still on. They like our families flourishing theme. The colors will match the rest of the
pool and be blue and white or yellow and white
The work on the mural will not start after the pool is closed at the end of summer.
The photo contest will be on August 1st
Need a new artist for the display at city hall.
Adjourned at 9 01pm
Respectfully Submitted by Larry Nelson, RAC Secretary
