Richfield Arts Commission June 2019 MinutesRichfield Arts Commission Minutes Thursday June 6th 2019 7:00 PM, Richfield Community Center 7000 Nicollet Ave S Commission Members Present: Larry Nelson, Joyce Marie, Chelsea Knauf, Jeff Wright, Mia Simpson, Karin Wolverton, Tom Eder Absent: Deborah Cooper Community Service Liaison: N/A City Staff Liaison : Marykaye Champa City Council Liason: Mary Supple Guests: Charlie Hile Called to Order- 7:00PM Agenda: approved by voice vote Minutes- approved by voice vote Presentation of RAC Teen Art Show Award Rowen had been selected as winner of the RAC award at the Augsburg Library Teen Art Show. Rowan was presented the award at our meeting. He also brought the winning piece as well as other art work he had done for the Arts Commission to look at. Sidewalk Initiate/ Poetry on 66th: Invitations have been sent out and Maria has confirmed she will speak at the event. Several poets have said they will be there as well. A plan was formulated to reach out to those who had not yet responded as well as doing a reminder to everyone prior to the event on July 13th. Committee members agreed to try to call those who had not yet responded to the event and make sure they were coming on the 13th. Logistics We have the band confirmed Decided to do photographs instead of video. Tom is willing to do the photo graphs. Everyone should show up at 7:30am on the 13th to help with event set up. There will be an event run through prior to the 13th. Mia will send out email with date and time. Maria will do welcome Joyce will do intro Mia will talk about Arts Commission and intro poets. Poets will read their poems. Invite people to see the poems in their locations in the sidewalk. Marketing The Arts Commission will prepare a press release Announcement will go on the City Facebook page and the event will also be shared in the Richfield Community Facebook group Little Library Rotary Event The event went well. Both Mia and Larry were there. Rotary is in the process of rebooting. They want someone from the Arts Commission to attend the Rotary meeting at 7 30 am on June 20th. Joyce said she would attend. Penn Fest Planning Karin is still waiting to hear from the Human Rights Commission to see if they want to share a table at Penn Fest Farmers Market RAC event There will be a RAC event on Saturday June 8th at the Farmers market. The theme will be unicorns. Still need to decide if we are going to do an event at the farmers market in October. Staff Report-Marykaye Tom is the artist displayed in the community center. A youth is going in the display at city hall Permission has been granted to wrap the electrical box on 66th and Penn. 4th of July committee wanted to know if the Arts Commission wants to table and do an activity at Family night on July 2nd. Chelsea said she would be available to help with that. Other items Carlie Hile was a visitor meeting. He brought up the idea of doing some type of sculpture in the roundabouts on 66th. He talked about doing different types of fundraising and approaching different groups in the city for donations. Will talk more about it in the future.
