Sidewalk Initiative/July Poetry Event Reflections
The July Poetry event went well. All the poets except one attended. There was also a good crowd size.
As of the August meeting there are four poems in the sidewalk. And no work has been done since the July event.
We will probably start the process for the 2020 sidewalk poetry contest around the end of the year. We will have 28
poems next year.
Pool Mural Update
As of the August meeting one bid had been submitted. It came back at $7,500 and that did not include cost of prep work
and $500 for scaffolding.
Some members of the commission seemed to think that was high and there might be lower bids from other places.
Little Library
The new location and the new library look good. We are running out of our supply of books. There was talk about maybe
doing a book drive with the community center being a drop off site. Chelsea said she will look for some books at places
like Goodwill. Mary said she would mention the need for books at the next City Council meeting.
Penn Fest Planning
Penn fest is September 15th. Need to check with Karin to see if the application has been put in yet. The electrical box on
Penn has been wrapped and it would be a good opportunity to promote the electrical box project depending on our
location at Penn Fest. Joyce will call Karin to see where things are at with the planning.
Farmers Market RAC event
In the past RAC has done a Halloween themed art event for families at the Farmers Market in October. It was decided
with everything else the commission has done this year that we would not do a Farmers Market Event this year.
Staff Report‐Marykaye
There is new artist in the community center. As of now there one in September/October and the elementary art will go
in at the end of the year.
RAC has been asked if we will take over the photo contest that has been run by the city next year instead of sponsoring
it. We will discuss this more at the September meeting.
We did not get charged for a sound person at our July Poetry event but we have been asked if RAC would be willing to
pay for DI boxes. DI boxes are part of the sound equipment. DI boxes are $30 each. RAC agreed to pay the cost of four
boxes for a total of approximately $120.
