Sidewalk Initiate/ Poetry on 66th:
Everything is on line which makes it easier for staff because it helps make sure submitted poems fit the guidelines.
As of 2/6 there were 42 Poems submitted
Next Steps
Last minute pushes to get poetry submitted and dealing with any last minute concerns that come up. Hopefully the score sheet will be ready in March.
Maykaye would like feedback about scoring of poems. Should the poems be all scored together or should it be broken down into separate categories for youth and adults. Remember to reply
only to Marykaye and not reply all with suggestions about scoring poems
We are still looking for ideas for the two panels we are reserving for special symbols or art work. One idea was something with a nature theme (turkeys, etc.) Another idea was something
that representing Richfield then and now. Please come to the March meeting with ideas.
$10,000 Public Art Project
Turns out we need permission from the Department of Transportation to do a mural under the 35W bridge. We can work with the Richfield transportation commission to see if we can get permission
from the DOT.
Mia has been talking for the people from Artistry in Bloomington. They suggested that when it comes time to look for an artist for the mural that we put out an RFQ (request for qualification)
So we can see the artists work before we make a selection.
We also need about who we want to affect with the mural and have a better understanding of what $10,000 will get us.
Families flourishing is a good theme but it is important to narrow it down.
Standing Reports
Little Library- Larry- the Little Library outside the Art Center is good at the moment. The plan is still to move it next to the band shell in the spring. We do have the option of having
a larger library if we want. No decision was made about increasing the size. Marykaye has books in her office if the Library needs to be stocked up.
Resource Group for Artists- Tom had an art exchange and artist meet and greet at the community center in December. Two new artists who were interested in having their art displayed showed
up at the event.
Art Display- Marykaye said the elementary art show just ended. A new Artist will go into the community center on 2/8
Staff Report-Marykaye
The Arts Commission has been approached about helping with the teen art show at Augsburg Park Library. The teen librarian asked for one judge from the Arts Commission for the teen art
show in the spring. Marykaye said that Jeff Wright volunteered to represent the Arts Commission as a judge for the show.
The show will be on Sunday May 19th.
A motion was made and passed to donate a $50 dollar card from RAC to the winner we choose.
Wellness Expo will be at the High School Saturday April 13th. Application to have a table needs to be in by March 1st. There were a few members that said they were available to staff
a table but no decision was made on whether or not to participate before the meeting ended.
Adjourned at 8:30pm
Respectfully submitted by Larry Nelson, RAC Secretary
