There was no quorum for the meeting. Still waiting for the city council to appoint new members.
Arts Brochure
The updating of the brochure was started last year, and it includes new art installations in the city. Marykaye is looking for feedback on the brochure. One immediate suggestion was
to see if more detail could be added to the map where there is a high concentration of art works. Perhaps adding specific intersections which would make the artwork easier to find. Karen
is willing to proof the brochure and get suggestions to Marykaye. Marykaye will email the brochure to all commission members and we can give her feedback.
2021 Art Activities
There was some discussion around possible art activities in the coming year. They included possibly doing an open mic night, follow up on poetry event that was put off last year because
of covid and maybe doing some type of painting event. There was also discussion to start looking at scheduling events. If we want to use the bandshell we need to reserve dates now. We
can pick dates now and decide what events we are going to have there later. Decided to reserve August 21st 5pm-9pm and September 11th, 12th. We can always release dates if we are not
going to use them.
Arts Installation
Newest sculpture at Chase Bank on 66th and Lyndale is going in. The artwork at Chamberlin apartments and the Land Rover dealership have gone in. We should get 2-3 options of artwork
from Chase Bank at our March meeting.
Requests from City Council
Potential mural at Galaxy Foods
Council would like to see the commission connecting with other arts organizations.
They would also like to see the commission thinking more about diversity and inclusion in art projects.
Thinking as city hall as home for the arts
They would also like the commission to be more involved in the RFP process. The commission could be a place where people bring their ideas and help develop form artists would fill out.
Commission could help develop form.
Staff Announcements
There will be an equity and inclusion training coming up for commission members.
There will also be a presentation from the city attorney around open meeting laws and proper meeting procedures.
Announcements/Updates –
The city has hired Bill Green for the new position of Equity and Inclusion Director.
At our March meeting will be discussing leadership roles so think about what role you want to play on the commission in the coming year.
Adjourned at 8: 22pm.
Next meeting Thursday March 4th 7pm
Respectfully Submitted by Larry Nelson, Acting RAC Secretary
