Richfield Arts Commission Minutes June 2021 Richfield Arts Commission April 1, 2021 meeting minutes Commission Members Present: Larry Nelson, Karin Wolverton, Aric Bieganek, Joyce Marrie Absent: Elise Melendez, Chelsea Knauf, Janie Mork Community Service Liaison: Lisa Rudolph City Staff: Marykaye Champa City Council Liaison: Mary Supple Call to order at 7:05 p.m. Approval of Agenda Motion to approve agenda. Agenda approved. Approval of Minutes Motion to approve minutes. Minutes approved. Chase Bank Sculpture Reached out to Chase to attend the June meeting and there was no response and no update to their public art installation.  Will reach out again to invite them to the Aug. meeting. Summer Theater Program Illusion Theatre Update: Bonnie Morris is the contact for the event happening on July 14th at 6pm at the Lyndale Gardens Amphitheatre; at this point we are only communicating via email and no further assistance is required from RAC at this time.  Mississippi Poets Poetry Project Update Richfield City Council approved project to install a Poetry Walk around Richfield Lake Park during May 25 meeting. Project will include signage of poetry along the walking path of the lake. Project is a collaboration with the Richfield Arts Commission, Mississippi Valley Poets and Writers, and the Cornerstone Group. Event planned for August at Richfield Lake bandshell to unveil artwork and celebrate artists.< Pride Circle Partnership with RAC, Woodlake Nature Center and the Richfield School District to paint the roundabout on Lyndale and 66th Street for Pride Month. Painting in the Park Hosted by the Minnesota Valley Natural Wildlife Refuge from June 12, 2-4 p.m. at Veterans Park. Will include a puppet show and painting by the band shell. Collaboration with Park Range Logan, Woodlake Nature Center, Friendship Commission and RAC. Community Services Commission Update None. Friendship City Commission Liaison update None. Exploring opportunities to collaborate with neighboring arts organizations Commission member Janie Mork created a list of commissions to consider partnerships, share ideas, and discuss budget information. No updates on outreach. Will discuss again during August meeting. Project for Public Spaces Discussion to explore how to find funding for projects in public spaces. Could include funding from state arts funding organizations or 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations. Will discuss again during August meeting. 2021 Activities Little library is well stocked. Council member Mary Supple offered to donate books from her classroom following her retirement in June. The Richfield Band Shell at Veterans Park will be booked for a RAC poetry event on September 12. All other reserved dates will be released on the band shell schedule. RAC will begin planning in July and leverage format from past poetry events. RAC will co-sponsor an event with Crossroads Panorama August 28. Timing to be determined. Event will include various types of arts performances from Twin Cities artists. Motion to co-sponsor, and motion seconded. Unanimously approved. RAC will consider opportunity to plan an artist series with local artists and musicians. Could use the tourism board as a partner. Will revisit next year. No decision on participation in Penn Fest (September 19). Will ask whether other commissions are participating and revisit in August. Staff Update Opportunity for RAC to host an open house event with a local author this fall. After further discussion with the author, proposed a panel event with multiple authors in 2022. Will revisit during February 2022 meeting. Announcements Staff liaison Mary Kaye Champa may not be able to attend the August 5, 2021 meeting.
