Little Library – It is well-stocked, it appears the path has been cleared to the library; MaryKaye has a box of books in her office when it needs refilling, we may need more book donations in the near future. Senior Showcase for High School students -Adam Smith (art teacher) had issues getting into the Webex meeting. The hope is that he can attend the April meeting. Karin and Larry will work with Adam to get more details before the April meeting. If other members want to join the sub-committee, let them know. Community Services Commission Update – Brooke Nelson – no updates this week Friendship City Commission Liaison – Courtney Kupsch – FCC met last month (Feb). They’ve been updating their art displays at the municipal center. Their trip to Costa Rica is postponed until 2023 (pandemic). They will be doing their Unity in the Community event again, could be a collaborative opportunity, more details to come. Transportation Commission Liaison update – Cole Hooey – Cole will start to join the TC meetings – he’s been in touch with the City Engineer. He will see how frequently he will attend their meetings after evaluation. MaryKaye will assist in getting him the meeting invites. 2022 Activities- What do we want to do work on Senior Showcase-May ? – see above Art in the Park, June 18, July 16 – 10-11:30 event; 9-10 setup, 11:30-Noon cleanup – could split into two shifts for RAC members. RAC sponsors and Rec staff helps staff the events. June 18th will be a “Jazzy Art in the Park” event – Aric and Janie will coordinate, Aric will reach out to jazz guitarists for availability and will work with Bonnie Hanna-Powers to ensure that there isn’t another musician that day. July 16th will be “Seed Art in the Park” – Stephanie will coordinate (if anyone else wants to assist, please let Stephanie know). There will be various seeds, glue and we could use paper and pre-printed canvasses that MaryKaye has in her office. The flyer showing our sponsored dates was featured on P. 31 of the recent Park and Rec Spring/Summer 2022 brochure. Crossroads Panorama event-August 20, 2:30-6:30 – Joyce shared details – extravaganza with many different artists: musicians, poets, spoken word, etc. Partnering with Tubman org. Everything is in the planning stages for this 3rd annual event. RAC will support with volunteering/staffing needs. Poetry Event, September PennFest-September It was decided that we would combine both Penn Fest and the Poetry event, highlighting the poetry in some capacity at Penn Fest table. A book of poems? Poets tabling and reading poems? Kid-friendly fill-in-the-blank poetry sheets to color and compose their own poetry could be prepared. This would give us only 1 event in September instead of 2. Motion by Aric to approve combined event, seconded by Cole. Dogs Take the Stage- October 15th 5:30-7:30 pm (if same as last year) – will happen during Trunk or Treat event. This will be RAC’s annual contribution as it was a more ideal fit than participating in the trunk or treat from a vehicle. Park Playground openings – 2 parks: Christian and Fremont. Fremont will happen first, then Christian. There won’t be as big of events as there was for Augsburg, as these are smaller changes, but RAC could pick dates to appear if we wish and do a pop-up event. Could provide art walk brochures to residents and provide a kid-friendly activity. On-going activities (Little Library, Electrical Box wraps, giving input to public art, art displays at city hall and community center,) Community Center Art: March Artist coming in on March 12th at 2pm to meet with MaryKaye. Joyce offered to greet the artist as a RAC member. Electrical boxes – Public Works said there may be more electrical box art for RAC to vote on soon, including potential boxes owned by Hennepin County. Pocket Park near new condos next to Home Depot and Target: there may be art to review for this space soon Municipal Center art displays: Display cases are mostly filled for 2022. MaryKaye had conversations with Jimmy Longoria (artist), more details soon. Staff Update – Mary Supple thanked RAC for November presentation to City Council. She also referenced the 494 project survey which is open through March 10th. MNDOT pays for al the materials, surfaces for project, City pays for the art. MaryKaye informed us that her updates happened throughout the meeting. If there are volunteers who want to help with displays, please let her know. MaryKaye may be at next meeting, but she is double booked with another city event, so if she is unable to attend, someone else from the city will in her place. Announcements – no additional announcements
