Richfield Arts Commission August 2023 Minutes Call to Order Present: Janie Mork, Aric Bierganek, Larry Nelson, Stephanie Kopp, Sharon Chris?ensen, Stephanie Jacobson, Joyce Marie, Karin Wolverton, Karl Huemiller Approval of Agenda: approved unanimous Approval of Minutes: no quorum, not official mee?ng, no minutes Approve May minutes.LN mo?on, AB second. Unanimous approval June / July RAC Farmers Market Events recap June’s theme was-bike decora?ons and was well received. There was a good turnout for volunteers and a wide age range of par?cipants. July’s theme was seed art. RAC used leSover canvases from previous seed art event. There are 5-6 canvases leS. There was a steady flow for the dura?on the event. Consensus was that it was a beWer loca?on to be within the farmers market as opposed to the adjacent building. Also beWer to connect with Bonnie. August RAC event Food Stamp Art ; The ques?on was raised as to whether RAC has supplies. Mo?on passed to purchase stamp pads to for event; Karl will purchase. stamps and vegetables. and coordinate with Stephanie Kopp who will bring stamps. Janie Mork and Stephanie Jacobson volunteered to help. The ?me frame will be 9:45 set up and the event will go 10am-11:30am Recap of Juneteenth ac?vity -June 17th RAC had a table, Joyce Marie received a matron of honor for the first Juneteenth in Richfield, JM gave out books and there were many vendors and performers AB Richfield Arts Commission (RAC) Agenda August 3rd, 2023, 7 :00 PM to 8:30 PM Richfield Community Center 7000 Nicollet connected with ar?st John Blackshear who designed Juneteenth logo and who will display his art Sept/Oct at the community center Mural Celebra?on August 19th Galaxy Foods block party, 6-8:30pm RAC members encouraged to show up in t-shirts but RAC will not have a table LiWle Library Good for now; reserve supply is gegng low. Karl will talk to Amy who has a book source. AB suggested pairing a book drive with the author event in Nov. Karl can commit to storing 1-2 boxes at the community center. Community Services Commission Update Updates to skate park finalized, start construc?on in Oct. Nature theme splash pad won. Start construc?on once pool is closed Donaldson park - bids coming in. Building coming down in next couple weeks. Bike park finished end of Sept.- possible collabora?on with RAC for 9/21-ish Local sales tax on 2024 ballot brochures finalized Augsburg park won MRPA award for design Hoops local raised enough for 4 new hoops WL marathon good turnout Unity in the community Other Upcoming Events/ Ac?vi?es - PennFest- September 17th 1-5pm 12;30-5;30 End of August is deadline. Possible table share with another commission to ease the staffing load. Karl will look into other commissions to partner with. Table decision un?l next mee?ng whether to par?cipate. AB first shiS, SJ and J.Mork for aSernoon shiS. Proposed to do bike art. Bike Park Event -September? TBA 9/21? Dogs Take the Stage -at dog park instead-October 14th Drop in only, paw print art, will discuss at sept. mee?ng Author Event- November 18th Poten?ally 7-8 authors. book craS ideas. paper bag book covers, black out art, 2024 Farmers Market ideas Bring ideas to sept.mee?ng to prepurchase. supplies RAC decorated 2 planter pots for Winter Market..AB kept many supplies but will need to purchase a few more. Karl will ask Bonnie if they would like us to decorate planter again this year. Plan to s?ck with three dates. Paint for the Pride Roundabout Ques?on as to whether RAC will s?ll be responsible for paint upkeep or if public works will take over for safety reasons. Karl will f/u with Public works and price out 2 colors for roundabout Possible upkeep on poems as well. Janie Mork volunteered to repaint. Reach out to poets and a possible adopt a poem program Electrical Box Wraps public works plan to do two and possibly replace ones showing weathering Art Displays- community center, city hall John Blackshear9/10 Amanda Pearson 11/12 Poetry walk event 6:30pm 8/19 Staff Update Approached by Gail Katz-Jones to partner with RAC. Awarded a 10k grant from MAC and classes for th community would be offered as part of the grant. Lyndale Gardens hosted Illusion Theater’s summer outdoor concert series. Per Mary Supple, it was announced a concert that part of the proceeds from a ‘pass the hat’ dona?on would be donated to RAC. Fall Programs; Amanda Pearson will offer a course on pain?ng and embroidery floss. There will be a dance group with a slightly different format from years past and other fun programming.all in the upcoming fall brochure.
