OF GANG RESISTANCE EDUCATION AND TRAINING
PROGRAM
Public Safety Director Erskine reviewed the history and focus of the Gang
Resistance Education and Training Program. He indicated if such a program were to be
approved by the School Board and implemented in Richfield, the focus would be junior
high school students. He stated that the program would be accommodated within the
current Public Safety budget if it is implemented.
Jay Henthorne School Liaison Officer, described the components and elements of
the Gang Resistance Education and Training Program. He stated initiation of the program
would be beneficial for Richfield’s youth and the community. He discussed gang activities
in the schools.
Discussion followed regarding the relationship of this proposed program to existing
programs such as Project Charlie, staffing, and funding of the program.
LyndaGault, Director of Special Programs, reviewed the vision statement goals
and strategies of the South Hennepin Family Services Collaborative Planning
initiative.
CityManager Prosser reviewed the status of the efforts of the All-America City
Committee, indicating an application has been submitted and preparations have begun for
the presentation program.
Dick Walker, Richfield Schools Director of Buildings and Grounds, provided a status
report of the Richfield Schools $36.5 million renovation and remodeling project.
Discussion followed regarding the potential negative impact on taxpayers if
Southdale prevails in a pending assessed market value challenge and tax rebate court
