Meeting Minutes
September 9, 2017

I. Call meeting to Order
Chair Weidenbach called the meeting to order at 7:01 pm
II. Approval of Agenda
Motion made by Severson to approve the agenda, s/Carter. Motion carried.
III. Approval of July 12, 2017 Meeting Minutes
Motion made by Walz to approve the minutes, s/Severson. Motion carried.
IV. Updates
Construction Updates: 66th St., 70th St., Concrete Repairs
City Staff, Logan Vlasaty, presented the construction updates. Traffic control
was discussed for 64th St. next year relating to the 66th St. reconstruction.
The sidewalk and ponding water near 62nd Street and the Penn bike trail
was discussed.
Staff stated 70th Street is complete and there have been minimal
complaints.
BCBS Grant Project and Crosswalk Event
Commissioners questioned why the crosswalks could not stay in place. Staff
explained that Hennepin County asked they be removed because the
intersections did not meet their threshold for a striped crosswalk.
Other Commissions/Bike Advocates
V. Pedestrian Plan, Dan Edgerton – Zan Associates
Dan Edgerton presented with an interactive display of pedestrian crosswalk
options and feedback. The main points discussed were:
o Pedestrian experience/feeling vs. checklist and accommodations “on paper”
o Roundabout accommodation for pedestrians and room for improvement
o Need for better crossings at 64th St. & Lyndale Ave. (Lakewinds)
o Commission observed the interactive map detailing route mapping activity
VI. 69th Street Pedestrian Interim Design
The Commission received feedback on the City Council’s decision on the 69th St.
pedestrian interim design. Commission members did not agree with the decision
and expressed confusion.
Commissioner Severson requested to monitor speeds and pedestrian use of the
“new” layout versus the pilot project layout versus the original layout.
VII. Work Plan Review/Next Steps
Lyndale Ave – Fall Open House
Resident living between 68th St. & 69th St. has concerns about driveway
accessibility with different lane configurations and roundabouts.

Future layouts were generally discussed, all were encouraged to attend
future open houses and be involved in the design
