I. Call meeting to Order
Commissioner Charnitz called the meeting to order at 7:03 pm
II. Approval of Agenda
Motion made by Severson to approve the agenda, s/Dunser. Motion carried.
III. Approval of June 7, 2017 Meeting Minutes
Motion made by Ness to approve the minutes, s/Walz. Motion carried.
IV. D-Line Arterial Bus Rapid Transit, Katie Roth and Scott Janowiak- Metro Transit
(30 min)
The speaker highlighted they are in the early planning stages of implementing a
new service with shorter wait time at stations and quicker service to downtown.
Proposed stations on Portland Avenue at 66th, 73rd and 77th Streets with
consideration of a station at Portland and 73rd Street.
V. 69th Street Pedestrian Pilot Project (60 min)
Project Review
o Vehicle speeds are lower even with the increase in traffic due to 66th St
Construction detour
o No significant crash history on the corridor before or during the pilot project
o An increase in pedestrian and bicycle usage along and across 69th St was
seen since the pilot project was constructed
o Key Considerations-
Traffic near southern curb
Driver confusion
Slower vehicle speeds
Safer pedestrian space
Shorter pedestrian crossings
Increased pedestrian and bicycle use
Recommendations to Council:
Motion made by Ness, s/Dunser. Program a project for a permanent solution on
69th Street from Penn Avenue to Xerxes Avenue., Motion carried with Severson
opposed
Motion made by Dunser, s/Ness. Modify the pilot project with narrowed lanes to
shift traffic away from the side of 69th Street for an interim solution until the
permanent solution is constructed. Motion carried

VI. Updates (15 min)
Construction Updates: 66th St, Mill and Overlay, Concrete repairs
o Broz stated mill and overlay is on schedule for the year
o Broz mentioned that concrete repairs will take place in August
BCBS Grant Project
o Staff is organizing a crosswalk event to highlight crosswalk safety
and highlight the demonstration project. Staff is looking for
volunteers for the event.
