Meeting Minutes
August 3, 2011

I. Call to Order
M. Kirsch called the meeting to order at 7:07 p.m.
II. Approval of Agenda
Motion by Ness to approve agenda with date correction, s/ Easterlund. Motion carried.
III. Approval of Meeting Minutes
Motion by Lund to approve June 22, 2011 meeting minutes, s/ Ness. Motion carried.
IV. Arterial Roads Prioritization
J. Pearson reviewed the revised information and draft scoring sheets. Comments were
received for further revisions. Pearson will make revisions for a future meeting to complete
the scoring of segments and finalize the prioritization.
V. 69th/70th Street Traffic Calming
Pearson presented the updated data gathered on 69th and 70th Streets. The Commission
heard from Kay Nelson regarding concerns about the traffic in the area. Concerns included
truck traffic, and a short delay at the 69th St & York Ave traffic signal that potentially
encourages more traffic on 69th Street. Considering the lack of increase in historical traffic
data but a possible speeding issue, motion was made by Ness to recommend that the City
use enforcement of traffic laws on 69th Street to control speeds rather than additional
signage at this time. The Commission requested that staff continue to do follow up traffic
studies to monitor the traffic volumes and speeds on the two streets.
VI. Updates
Asher updated the Commission on the Metro Sewer project and street closures involved
with the project.
Pearson gave updates on the Nicollet Ave Bridge project, the PRO Signal Project that
affects signals along the 76th/77th Street corridor, and the status of the Bicycle Master
Plan.
VII. Adjournment
M/Ness to adjourn the meeting, s/Easterlund. Motion carried. Meeting was adjourned at
8:28 P.M.
VIII. The next Transportation Commission meeting will be held on October 5, 2011 at
7:00 p.m. at the Richfield Municipal Center, Bartholomew Room.
