Selection of a chairperson led to the selection of Steve Lindgren and Barb Kritzman as Co-chairs. Steve served as chair for the meeting.
The Committee selected the first Monday of the month as the regular meeting date. The September meeting will have to be moved due to a conflict with Labor Day. The meetings will be held
at City Hall at 7:00 p.m.
I-494 Layout- Tom O’Keefe of MnDOT gave a presentation on the final layout for I-494. He indicated that under current funding the project would not begin in Richfield until 2013. He
reviewed the portion from Highway 100 to Highway 77.
URS staff explained the changes in access to the new I-35W/I-494 interchange with the help of a colored map that showed the different movements from the existing to the proposed interchange.
The new Lyndale Avenue interchange does not provide access to northbound I-35W.
City staff presented information on the traffic forecasts for freeways in and around Richfield. The twenty-year traffic forecast showed that all I-494 segments in the City will be over
capacity. The layout provides for expansion of one lane in each direction in the future.
76th Street Ramp-Tom O’Keefe of MnDOT and URS staff gave a presentation on the five proposed alternatives being considered for the 76th St. entrance ramp. Discussion followed on the
right of way impacts of each alternative. The need for an HOV bypass was also discussed for its impact on ROW. Turning movement counts from the Best Buy EIS would be used to evaluate
local traffic impacts. Tony Heppelmann of WSB will provide routes for traffic diverted if the ramp is closed.
Committee members asked about the impact of the Humboldt Avenue storm sewer on ramp design.
The Committee was asked to evaluate possible factors to consider in selecting a preferred alternative. MnDOT staff will prepare a matrix showing possible factors at the next meeting.
The Committee suggested notification to the public could be by:
Web site
Agenda sent to interested persons
Sun Current
Schedule of future meetings
Agenda packet sent to Ken Meter for the Humboldt-Girard neighborhood
Committee members asked to have a presentation on the 66th Street and Portland Avenue intersection at the next meeting. A list of Committee members was also requested.
The next Committee meeting will be on July 7, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall.
