April minutesRichfield Arts Commission
April 4, 2013
Attendance: Present - Mary Kaye, Kevin, Jackie, Dan, Lisa, and Michelle; excused absent – Willie, Pete,
Claire
Meeting began 7:10
City Report – MK
April 19-20 Dance Recital at the Community Center – looking like 2 sold out shows again. The Pines will
once again be selling $5 flower bouquets.
Since the City Report often overlaps much of the regular agenda, MK will try to hold her report and add
items as appropriate
Motion to approve February and March 2013 minutes by Jackie, 2nd by Dan. So moved.
May Open House - May 11, 2013 9:30-11:30
Kevin spoke to Catherine Byers from the Farmer’s Market. We have a pretty good shot at getting plants
donated to us. We will be requesting 25-50. Discussed creating a tent card stating that we have a
limited number of plants. Pots are unlimited, but once our plants are used up guests will need to fill
them on their own. MK will be there with the key, and may go down the day before to prep tables. We
also discussed cleaning in advance – looks like May 4 at 9 am for anyone who can make it.
Unity in the Community – May 16, 2013 5-7:30, Vets Park
We will be arts and crafts so can do whatever we would like. Discussed buttons, so will hold a button
making tutorial at our next meeting.
Art Center Sculpture
Discussed several artistic ideas to fill the space above the wall, but no decisions were made. We will
invite Jim T to a future meeting to discuss what is structurally and financially feasible.
Heredia Sculpture
There is more research to be done into this matter. Kevin has been in touch with David Delzer
(Friendship Commission), but still unsure of the status of this statue – is it complete or is the sculptor
just willing to make another for us and more significantly, is it to be purchased or donated? Assuming it
is to be donated and ready to go, transportation is a major hurdle.
T-shirts / Logo Design
Discussed the need for new t-shirts and considered the idea of revamping the logo, including possibly
incorporating the fact the commission is now 10 years old into the logo. New ideas will be presented at
our next meeting.
Art Circuit Update
Carol Lowe had a very successful opening at the Community Center, over 100 people in attendance and
5 pieces sold
Soon currently installed at city hall with a nice looking display
Our schedule is full for the remainder of 2013 for both the Community Center and City Hall
Meeting adjourned at 8:45
