RAC at the market
event
(September 14th)
Kevin Klos • A lot of kids came to paint the bikes, there was a line
at times showing interest in the activity.
• The welder and sculptor showed up to see the bike
sculpture.
• Spin art went over well, lot of kids enjoying the activity.
•
Penn Fest
(September 15th)
Kevin Klos • Spin art was very popular; took lots of good photos for
our facebook page. Sugar art was very busy. 176
sugar vessels were used. Sticker art didn’t fair well. It
was too windy.
• Penn Fest, overall, was busy. The group considered it
a success. There was lots going on, seemed really
busy in the main area.
• RAC had a volunteer face painter. The face painter
was really busy, and was happy to be at the RAC
booth.
• “Free Little Library” design contest: there was a poster
board with all of the design entries for the design a free
library contest. Attendees to Penn Fest were allowed
to vote for their favorite design. The top three vote
getters would be considered for a final voting by the
RAC. Interest was good as a 106 people voted! We
ran out of ballots twice. The Mayor attended the RAC
booth and voted for her favorite library. The Mayor
even requested one for her yard. The Mayor thought
we should sell them. That is something to think about
as a means to raise money.
• Willie held a pottery lottery. Some winners didn’t stick
around to claim their pots, so Willie was thinking of
calling the winners and delivering pots to them. MK
suggested that the winners could come to the Art
Center at our next event and pick them up there.
Little Library
Contest
Kevin Klos Kevin announced the top 3 free library contest contestants.
RAC voted secret ballot and chose a winner. RAC discussed
having the library painted by the teen art show. Willie to have
RHS students paint the library. The winner will be announced
at the teen art show and the Little Library will be unveiled.
Richfield Gateway Kevin Klos Kevin went to a Richfield Gateway meeting. At the meeting a
Richfield Arts Commission Meeting Minutes
Meeting designer was showing concepts for signs to be put up as
people enter Richfield. The designer showed 3 concepts with
differing options for a, “Welcome to Richfield” sign. The
eventual finished signs will be placed, possibly, at Penn,
Nicolet and Portland Ave.
Heredia Sculpture Kevin Klos Kevin talked about the Heredia sculpture. He gave some
background on the Heredia sculpture plan. He discussed the
possibility of the Heredia artist making a mold and shipping
that as a way to defer the cost of shipping a heavy sculpture
made of metal. Lisa mentioned that if the artist could make a
smaller cast, possibly, we could sell the smaller sculptures.
Kevin said the sculptor was going to start work on the
sculpture.
Posters On Board
Mural
Kevin Klos • Posters On Board, on Penn, has a big blank wall on
the side of their building. People from Posters On
Board contacted Kevin and sent him some images of
ideas for the mural. They were 3D-illusion designs.
The mural space is 16 x 16.
• POB were open to suggestions and Kevin asked RAC
members to think about possible ideas for the mural.
POB suggested nothing that resembled a skate park or
a senior center for the design.
• The group was thinking about painting it this coming
spring/summer.
• Jackie suggested that we try and draw in famous
poster images. Group thought it could be a person
looking into a store with famous paintings inside.
Jackie to spearhead painting as she noted earlier in
the evening that, “she really wanted to get back into
painting.” It’s fate!
Bring ideas on
what the wall
design could look
like to the
November
meeting.
Art in the
Community
Kevin Klos • Kevin read a list of all the Richfield groups the RAC
has worked with in the past six months. It was a
lengthy list and highlighted the amount of group effort
the RAC has put in with the city of Richfield.
• Claire asked what the RAC can offer Richfield
residents. Really thinking about, “what we have, what
they want, and what they see as opportunities.” This
could be something we think about going into fall and
winter. This initiated a group discussion about
possibilities such as what RAC can offer Richfield
residents, what Richfield can realistically offer the RAC
and artists in the city, and the possibility of having
corporate sponsors.
• One idea the group seemed excited about was having
corporate sponsors that would donate prizes/gift cards
in exchange for some publicity. One suggestion was a
person could take a picture with a Pizza Luche napkin
or a pizza box in front of a Richfield sculpture. Each
photo would be a chance in a drawing with the winner
receiving the gift card.
• Other contests/publicity could center around re-

• The group also talked about trying to get started with
art showings for exhibitors at the Richfield Community
Center. RAC seemed enthusiastic at possibly hosting
more art events at the Community Center and working
on building that into something impressive.
Adjourn The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 PM.
