The Richfield Recreation brochure is out, and RAC has space in it promoting the arts open houses and
the city artist displays.
Arts Open Houses are scheduled for the 2nd Saturdays of the month during the farmers market.
Katherine Byers‐Ferrian is the new farmers market coordinator (612‐861‐9362 office hours 9‐3pm T &
Th).
In the art circuit, a new artist (Soon Squires) is in the Municipal Center from March – May. A new artist
(Carol Lowe) is scheduled to install art in the Community Center on Saturday and displaying through
April. She is planning a reception on March 16th. Wiilie Falwell will go in city hall from June – August.
Future display rotation/artists were discussed for Community Center and Municipal Center, and the
schedule is full through 2013.
Open Streets/Penn Central is scheduled for September 15th noon – 4pm. RAC discussed if we would like
to participate again. No formal decision was made, but consensus seemed to be that we will participate.
Proposed changes to the Arts Commission Bylaws were reviewed. One change was that RAC will not
meet in July or December. Another change reduced the commission membership from 15 to 10 to more
accurately reflect community participation.
The group discussed what activity to do for the first Arts Open House at the farmers market. Since it is
the day before Mother’s Day, we discussed flower pot decorating (as we have done in the past). We
discussed trying to organize a better system for kids to get the plants. Kevin will follow up with the
market coordinator about flower/plant donations from farmers market vendors.
The Unity in the Community event (May 16th) is at Veteran’s Park. Possibilities for Arts Commission
participation were discussed, but no formal decision was made. MK will follow up with the event
coordinator to see if there’s something specific they want RAC to do.
The group discussed possible solutions to the open space above the wall at the art center. New
members will coordinate with MK a time to visit the art center so they have a better idea of the space.
The group will continue to explore creative and cost effective ways to strengthen the security of the art
center.
A local artist has offered some art supplies, but it was not clear if it was meant as a donation or a sale.
MK and Willie will meet with him to discuss possibilities and to evaluate the potential benefits of the
materials.
No formal elections have been held yet, but Kevin Klos is the acting chair, and Pete Dysart is the acting
secretary. Elections may be held at the April meeting.
Claire provided an update on the Crosstown Creativity group. They have many events planned,
including open studio time on Wednesdays from 1‐4:30 p.m. They have established a presence on
many social media platforms, including: http://crosstowncreativity.blogspot.com/
There was a brief discussion on the efforts to build a bandshell in Richfield.
