Fitness on Lyndale is open Band Shell Status David Butler David Butler (manager of the Richfield Symphonic Band and Richfield Band Shell group member) came to update us on the status of the band shell and ask the Arts Commission for an endorsement for the creation of the band shell. David told us the plan is to get $250,000.00 of money from the city in support of the band shell (from Richfield Liquor Store money) and the other $750,000.00 will need to be raised by the band shell group. An analysis of airport noise was done on the Veteran’s Park site, and it was found the Veteran’s Park site has less noise than the Lake Harriett band shell site. The VP site is fairly close to the stage that gets set up for the 4th of July. Portable band shelters were considered, but were found to not be very durable. Lyndale Garden Development Debra Caserotti Colleen Carey from the Cornerstone Group is creating a Lyndale Gardens Art Initiative in their new development. She is interested in involving artists in the design and planning stages of the project to help ensure it will be beautiful, unique and support artists in the community. Judy will contact Colleen and set up a time where any interested RAC members can get together and go meet with her to get more information on this initiative. Report on September Open House and Penn Fest Judy Goebel • 65+ people came to the September Open House. The button maker was popular and we received $9.00 in donations • Penn Fest was really busy. Spin Art and the button maker activities were very popular October Open House Debra Caserotti Activities will be: pottery lottery, button maker, spin art. The volunteers will be: Debra, Judy, Ellen, Willie, Jackie Volunteers will work open house Winterize the Art Center Debra Caserotti On Saturday October 28 Debra, Judy (and possibly Claire) will move valuables out of Art Center for the winter. Movers will decide on a time and get in contact with MK Claire’s Report Claire Plank- Gahler • Claire pitched a RAC Bookbinding Activity night for October (which is national book month). It would be a free activity for the public and we could use the Arts Ellen motioned to give Claire $100 of funds for Richfield Arts Commission Meeting Minutes Respectfully Submitted, Kevin Klos, Secretary of the RAC Center or Community Center to host it in. Other ideas for future events: paint-by-numbers night, create-an- ornament night (December), Origami night. Claire will talk to MK about specific timing and funding. • The Pizza & Poetry night will be hosted by Fireside Pizza on Thursday November 15 from 8-10pm. Claire met a woman that is in a poetry group that could be a good resource for getting poetry fans there that night. • Claire wants to start an Arts Center Blog in 2013. Jim mentioned the city of Richfield is having a meeting next Monday to discuss the role of social media on city commissions and will know after that meeting if we can have a RAC blog or not. • We have 83 likes on our RAC Facebook page. Claire suggested having a raffle for Barnes and Noble gift cards on the page to get more likes and activity as a tie-in to national book month. • Ellen motioned to give Claire $100.00 of funds toward Bookbinding, Pizza and Poetry and Facebook prizes. Teen Art Show Kevin Klos • Submissions for the Teen Art Show will be 11/4-11/10 • Kevin sent promotional Teen Art Show flyers in PDF form to Pete, Willie, the Richfield Middle School and MaryKaye • The opening/awards ceremony will take place on 11/26 at 6:30pm at the Augsburg Park Library • The Optimists donated $100 to the Teen Art Show and sent Check to Librarian Lisa Howes • Kevin will get exact dates for judging and art hanging • We can decide next meeting on how much our “Arts Commission award” we be worth Kevin will get exact dates for judging and art hanging Community Art Display Debra Caserotti Deneece Lacy’s display goes through mid October, and then Willie’s class is on display through rest of the year and into January.
