Staff Report-
MaryKaye Champa
- The city is in the process of pouring concrete for
the six columns at the Veterans' Memorial.
- Concrete is also being poured at tne skate park in
Augsburg Park
- The Band Shell project is moving forward. They
have a sponsor for the project. The city will make
it part of a capital campaign in 2014, 2015 and
2016. The project group is still studying airplane
noise in Veterans' Park before committing to that
site. Another possible location might be the
development at the former Lyndale Garden Center
site.
- On August 16 from 4-8 PM there will be an event at
the Picnic Shelter in Veterans' Park where the
redevelopment plans for the Lyndale Garden Center
site will be on public display .
- Arts Commission business cards were approved by
Jim Topitzhofer and printed in house so there was
no charge to make them. They are ready for use
except that the individual cards need to be cut
apart. Cards were handed out to RAC members who
wanted them.
- The RAC member term expiration schedule was
reviewed: Judy, Ron, and Ellen's terms expire in
2013. Deb & Pete will need to renew in 2013. The
reason that some members get longer terms than
others is because City Council appoints people to
specific term slots. People who are appointed to
fill an unfinished term do not start counting toward
their term expiration until they complete the
unfinished term they were appointed to and then
renew membership to start a fresh term.
- A security wall will be built to separate the Art
Center from the Malt Shop during the time when it
is closed for the winter, The current plan is to
install wooden slats.
- MaryKaye brought an application for RAC to
complete in order to participate in the Open
Streets event on Penn Avenue. This needs to be
submitted as soon as possible.
- A button maker has been purchased using the
Couture donation funds.
July Open House The event was a success. Grab bags were a big
success.
Claire will send out
email with

Report On Report
to City Council-
Judy & Debra
The report went well. It was videotaped and can be
viewed on the City of Richfield website
T hank You Card
for Larry Couture
A thank you card was at the last open house, and we
asked visitors to sign it. The front cover of the card
needs work to make it more attractive. It was
suggested that some of the leftover spin art and
possibly blotto prints would be good on the front page.
Claire will fix the
card.
MK will call Larry
Couture to find out
when he might be
available for a
delegation to bring
it over to him.
Plans for Penn
Fest/Open
Streets
September
This event will take place on September 16 and will run
from noon to 5 pm. Participating groups are asked to
have someone there the whole time. Suggested
activities include: button making, potter’s wheel demo,
music, bubble blowing, handspinning demo, possible
artist demos, distributing Public Art brochure,
recruiting new arts commission members. We
completed the application form for MK to deliver to
the Open Streets committee proposing the above
MK will submit
application form.
activities and requesting electrical power in the booth.
Budget/Purchases RAC has about $350 remaining in its annual budget. It
also has over $30 it has received in donations during
Open House events. This money must be spent before
the end of the calendar year. The Couture donation
will not expire at the end of the calendar year. Some
of that money has been spent to buy the button maker
and supplies. MK did not know the exact amount
because she has not yet been billed.
Web Presence &
Infrastructure -
Claire
As mentioned earlier, business cards are now available.
Kevin has redesigned the artist display application
form. Ron and Judy volunteered to answer the
questions Claire has written for a “Meet the Arts
Commission” feature to be published on the Facebook
page.
Display Artist
Recruitment and
New RAC Member
recruitment
Rather than wait for City Council to request it, we will
prepare a job description and send it to them along
with some suggested interview questions. We will try
to recruit new members and artists at the Open
Streets event.
Art Display
Schedule
All three venues have artists scheduled through
February, 2013.
Other It was suggested that we try to plan one or more
events that are for writers. A series of Poetry and
Pizza events was suggested.
Claire will think
about Poetry &
Pizza.
Adjourn The meeting was adjourned at 8:30
Next meeting: September 6
Respectfully submitted,
Judy Goebel, filling in for Kevin Klos
