Penn Avenue will be closed from 66th to 75th streets. The organizers of the event want RAC to participate. We will use the leftover flower pots in the cabinet to have a Mother’s Day activity for kids to decorate them and MaryKaye will try to get some small flowers to plant in them.  We may also get out the murals and let children paint on them if we have enough volunteers to supervise this.  Richfield will have a Community Celebration in Veterans Park on May 17th from 4 pm to 7 pm. We want to have some Arts Commission members present in the Art Center so none of our furniture or supplies disappear this year and to prevent stuff being dumped into our space. Deb and Pete can be there at 4 pm. Judy and others indicated they could come later. Any and all RAC members are welcome to come to this social occasion.  Judy, Deb, Willie, Jackie, Claire and Ron will clean out and set up Art Center on Saturday, May 5 at 9 am  Willie will bring spin art for open house  RAC members will be present in Art Center during Community Celebration: Deb and Pete at 4, Judy and others later. Judy and Deb asked to be kept informed of what the committee is doing. MaryKaye brought up the Open Meeting law and the importance of not doing RAC business by email or in discussions outside our scheduled and publicized meetings. Claire to send email Work Session with City Council Debra Caserotti RAC needs to continue to think about what we want to bring up with the City Council in our work session in July. MaryKaye MK to find out meeting time, Richfield Arts Commission Meeting Minutes Respectfully Submitted, Judy Goebel, substituting for Kevin Klos, Secretary was asked to confirm the time for this event RAC members continue to think about this. Edina Art Center Debra Caserotti Debra has done some research on the Edina Art Center, and has learned that they are actually set up very similarly to the way the Art Center is in Richfield. The Art Center board serves at the request of the Edina City Council. All boards and commissions within the city are advisory in nature. Edina City Council interviews interested candidates for open positions. The Edina Art Center is an enterprise of the City of Edina, and the Director is a city employee who reports directly to Director of Edina Parks & Recreation. The director works with a 12 member board of directors. The Edina Art Center budget is comprised of student registrations, donations, fees and special events. The Art Center is affiliated with the City of Edina, and does not have 501(c)3 Non-Profit status, so like us, they are limited in our funding sources that non-profits regularly receive. The Edina Art Center recently applied for grant funding through the Minnesota State Arts Board and the Legacy Funding. Edina Art Center board meetings are public, and anyone may attend. Deb suggested that any RAC members interested in further information may want to attend the upcoming meeting on May 24 at 4:30 PM in Studio 14 on the lower level of the Edina Art Center, 4701 W. 64th Street in Edina. The meeting lasts up to 90 minutes, and there may be time to meet and speak to board members following the meeting. RAC members invited to attend Edina Art Center board meeting May 24 Adjourn The meeting was adjourned at 8:17 PM.
