Two city recreation supervisors have left. A new
person has been selected for one of the positions and
will start in May, if he passes the background check.
The spring dance recital was a hit. Two performances
were filled.
The city got the Open Streets grant from Blue
Cross/Blue Shield that it had applied for. The event is
scheduled for Sept 16th from noon to 5pm. Penn
Avenue will be closed from 66th to 75th streets. The
organizers of the event want RAC to participate. At
this time it is not clear whether they could offer any
funding to help us or what role they would want us to
play.

Construction of the new patios and landscaping outside the
building is underway.
The new floor in the Art Center and in the hall outside has
been installed
The Art Center needs to be rearranged and set up in
preparation for the Open House on May 12. Judy, Deb,
Willie, Jackie, Claire and Ron will meet on Saturday, May 5
at 9 am to do this work.
Willie will bring his Spin Art for the Open House. We will use
the leftover flower pots in the cabinet to have a Mother’s Day
activity for kids to decorate them and MaryKaye will try to
get some small flowers to plant in them.
We may also get out the murals and let children paint on
them if we have enough volunteers to supervise this.
Richfield will have a Community Celebration in Veterans
Park on May 17th from 4 pm to 7 pm. We want to have
some Arts Commission members present in the Art Center
so none of our furniture or supplies disappear this year and
to prevent stuff being dumped into our space. Deb and Pete
can be there at 4 pm. Judy and others indicated they could
come later. Any and all RAC members are welcome to
come to this social occasion.

will send him an email asking for status. Judy and Deb asked
to be kept informed of what the committee is doing.
MaryKaye brought up the Open Meeting law and the
importance of not doing RAC business by email or in
discussions outside our scheduled and publicized meetings.

Edina Art Center Debra
Caserotti
Debra has done some research on the Edina Art Center, and
has learned that they are actually set up very similarly to the
way the Art Center is in Richfield. The Art Center board serves
at the request of the Edina City Council. All boards and
commissions within the city are advisory in nature. Edina City
Council interviews interested candidates for open positions.
The Edina Art Center is an enterprise of the City of Edina, and
the Director is a city employee who reports directly to Director
of Edina Parks & Recreation. The director works with a 12
member board of directors. The Edina Art Center budget is
comprised of student registrations, donations, fees and special
events. The Art Center is affiliated with the City of Edina, and
does not have 501(c)3 Non-Profit status, so like us, they are
limited in our funding sources that non-profits regularly receive.
The Edina Art Center recently applied for grant funding through
the Minnesota State Arts Board and the Legacy Funding.
Edina Art Center board meetings are public, and anyone may
attend. Deb suggested that any RAC members interested in
further information may want to attend the upcoming meeting
on May 24 at 4:30 PM in Studio 14 on the lower level of the
Edina Art Center, 4701 W. 64th Street in Edina. The meeting
lasts up to 90 minutes, and there may be time to meet and
speak to board members following the meeting.
