There will be 10 concerts, all Thursday nights. • The Richfield Farmers Market satellite group asked MaryKaye if we would like to hold activities during their Friday Farmers Market that runs 2-6pm. After discussing, we were not sure if that Farmers Market would draw enough kids? Would that farmers market allow us to work demos and sell art? If we did work a children’s mural event, would they purchase the mural paper? • We have a booking problem with the Adaptive Rec. dept for our April 1st movie night. Although we reserved the room, they need to use the room for their movie night (on the same night as ours) because of disability needs. We decided to keep the date and movie night, but switch to the room downstairs. We will post a sign on the door for the public to go downstairs for RAC movie night. MaryKaye will ask about selling art and the mural purchase. City Council: Promoting Richfield Sculptures Jim Topitzhofer • Jim spoke to our group to let us know that art promotion was a recent topic at the city council. The council likes the idea of a Richfield self guided sculpture tour and would like us to create a printed promotional piece identifying all the sculptures in Richfield and give facts (artist, date, meaning) and location of the sculptures. The budget for this project is $1000. We need to decide what qualifies as a sculpture, how many to include and we need to find out how to get the info about each sculpture. • The council discussed a want to add more sculptures in Richfield. Can we help them attract more sculpture building so Richfield can be known for their sculptures? Jim and MaryKaye can help write grants. Jim suggested we get in contact with local businesses and identified Bremer Bank as an untapped resource that supports the arts. Can we challenge businesses to donate or buy a sculpture? Maybe we talk to the Veterans memorial group for ideas on funding. We need to come up with criteria for sculptures: visibility from street, accessibility to public, etc. We can recommend quality areas to add a sculpture to city council. Talk more on this topic next meeting. Richfield Arts Commission Meeting Minutes Teen Art Show Kevin Klos It is difficult in getting students to appear at the Optimist club meeting because it conflicts with school (Wednesday morning). Kevin proposed to Tom Rublien that maybe the Optimists would be willing to come to the high school and meet some of the students and see the art from the teen art show in Willie’s classroom. If that is not possible, we can have some RAC members come to the Optimist meeting, but it would most likely be without any students. Kevin will be in contact with Tom Rublien about setting this up. February Movie Night Judy Goebel The next movie night will be February 11th at the community center, and we will screen Happy Feet. MK reported that it does not look like there will be space to do the dance demo, however, Pete suggested filming the dancers, and showing the demo before the movie. MaryKaye will look into that. MaryKaye has been posting and handing out fliers for movie night, and Kevin has been advertising through our social media outlets and the web. MK will find out more on the dance demo. Community Center Art Ron Wilson Nancy Rector will be the next artist to display work in the community center. She will have an opening on March 19th from 1:30-3:30pm. Adjourn The meeting was adjourned at 8:27 PM. Respectfully Submitted, Kevin Klos, Secretary of the RAC
