Tom Rublien came to discuss the remaining tasks for the Teen Art
Breakfast. Tom was able to get Einstein Bros. & Lunds to both
donate food items for the event. Tom will bring the food to the
school before the event. Ellen volunteered to bring her camera
and take photos to send to the Sun Current. Willie showed
everyone what each student will receive as a participation award:
A sketchbook, colored pencils and an LED pen. Willie and
MaryKaye bought the sketchbook and pencils at Michaels. Kevin
volunteered to send thank-you notes to Optimists, Einsteins,
Lunds, Tom Rublien, and Dr. Slotterback. Melissa volunteered to
make name tags for the event. Judy will send her the logo. Tom
believes we can use the Teen Art Show as a spring board for
other events. He would like us to have a larger presence at Cattail
days, perhaps a juried art show — something to think about.
Plan for revising
Strategic Plan
Judy
Goebel
The City Council read our plan and they didn’t have any issues
with our goals. They were surprised to hear that the Art Center is
not open all of the time, and about the competing organizations for
art classes. They told us Frank White will look into it. On the issue
of publicity, the Council did not have any advice for us. The city
can not currently provide us any funds — they do not have any
money for advertising outside of Richfield, and it is up to us for
getting the word out. They also do not have any money for us to
spend on an increased web presence. They suggested we create
a separate group “friends of” like the history center has, to do
fundraising/donations/grants. They told us state aid has been
recently cut, so the city is in trimming budget mode. They support
our work in spirit, but can’t provide any resources to us. We need
to fundraise ourselves. Judy would like to revise strategic plan
with specific proposals and get to a final draft everyone is OK with.
Judy and
Ellen will start
a
subcommittee
for revising
the strategic
plan, and
those who
are interested
can join.

Summer Art Center
Programming
Judy
Goebel
We currently have 3 Saturdays during the summer (Jun 12, Jul 10,
Aug 14) and possibly Cattail Days (Oct 9). Judy may have a friend
that could do an Irish Dance program. If anyone else knows artists
interested in doing demos, find out by next meeting. Ellen
suggested doing a kids art show for the June date, since kids
would be less available once school is out. Ron suggested an art
show//sale for adults for one event date. He also suggested
having a musical group outside the Art Center during the events to
attract people over. We can ask Pete for suggestions next
Lets think for

Community Center
Art Display
Ron Wilson Ron emailed 3 people who have expressed interest in showing
work at the community center. April is currently open for a new
display. Ron talked to the library, and that venue is open as well.
Adjourn The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 PM.
Respectfully Submitted,
