RAC_DEC_09_minutesRICHFIELD ARTS COMMISSION MEETING THURSDAY DEC. 3rd, 7:00 PM, IN COMMUNITY CENTER Present: Kevin Klos, Willie Falwell, Jackie Mihalik, Judy Goebel, MaryKaye Champa, Ron Wilson, Peter Dysart Minutes submitted by: Kevin Klos Report on Teen Art Show: Kevin gave his report on the teen art show — the judging went well, there were over 30 pieces of work, and many of the winning students were able to attend the opening. It was great to have the Mayor presenting the awards, which made it more significant to the parents and students. Shout outs to Willie, Ron, Judy, Marilyn, and Jackie for attending the opening, as well as MaryKaye for attending and getting the money for the RAC to sponsor an award. Tom Rublein expects to get a donation from the Optimists club, that can be divided into participation awards for the students that didn’t win. Kevin is going to get in contact with Lisa Howes on a number count/names of those students. Willie suggested having a small breakfast/photo-op at the high school for the students and the Optimists. Judy will get in contact with Tom to let the Optimists know about it. Ron will ask Lisa when to move the teen art show from the library to the community center. Jackie is going to send Kevin the photo of the RAC with the Mayor and the winning students to get added to our web page. The lessons-learned for next year are: The RAC should start promoting this event even earlier (September). We should get in contact with Steve Mills from the middle school and perhaps volunteer for a pick update, so the students do not have to bring their work over to the library themselves. Jim and Frank not support the idea of moving Music in the Park to the picnic shelter in Veterans Park, as they felt it was too hard to move tables around and airport noise has been reported to be too distracting when the city has attempted to hold concerts in Veterans Park in the past. They were open to us having an arts fair in/around the Arts Center during the Farmers Market which could include performers and tables where artists could sell their work. They are open to us requesting budgeting if we have solid plans. The budget for 2011 is due by this June. Jim and Frank were supportive of RAC creating a Strategic Plan for 2010-2012. Jim and Frank would be happy to review a draft of that document when it is ready, and Jim suggested requesting a work session between the RAC and the City Council to review the Strategic Plan as well. If we have concrete goals, the city will be more willing to help us. Pete Dysart then gave us the quote of the night, “If you don’t ask for anything, you’ll get it.” Thanks, Pete. The debriefing to the city council went fine and there was little to report from that. Preliminary meeting with Vuitts Art Gallery: Judy was able to meet with Tom Rublien and the owner of Vuitts Art Gallery. Vuitts would like to partner with the RAC for the remodeling fair. Tom Rublein is involved in the planning for the Remodeling Fair, and can facilitate our participation. Vuitts can notify us about their events for the RAC newsletter and can probably post the RAC newsletter at their Art Gallery. We can possibly also partner with them during Penn Fest next August. Remodeling Fair subcommittee: Ron, Willie and Jackie volunteered to be on the Remodeling fair subcommittee. Judy is going to set a date up where the subcommittee can meet with Vuitts. January Meeting: We will have a January Meeting on Thursday the 7th.
