RAC_SEP_09_minutesRICHFIELD ARTS COMMISSION MEETING
THURSDAY SEPT. 3rd, 7:00 PM, IN COMMUNITY CENTER
Present: Peter Dysart, Kevin Klos, Bob Teslow, Willie Falwell, Jackie Mihalik, Judy Goebel, Ellen Stinger, MaryKaye Champa, Ron Wilson, Kimberly Tornoe, Marilyn Anderson, Michele Thompson
Arts Commission Brainstorming/identify role: We spent the first half of the meeting discussing what our role in the community will be, as well as brainstorming our projects and priorities
for the coming year.
Ron will go over the list of people who have had work displayed at the community center to potentially add them to a RAC arts registry and see if they are also interested in joining
the RAC.
Kimberly suggested bringing in business people who are interested in the arts to join the RAC.
A general idea is to strive for larger group of volunteers that may want to help us out on events but may not want or have time to be full RAC members. One large group of these people
are students.
Another idea is to do some sort of project with Bloomington, Edina or Eden Prairie art commissions to not only help us get the word out about the RAC, but also get ideas from them on
what they do, and how to improve the RAC.
Everyone agreed that we should act as a clearing house for all Richfield Art Events and that it is important to keep our city webpage updated and use it as a focal point for publicity,
and get a calendar on the webpage that highlights art events.
We felt that we need to foster our relationships with the Richfield Chamber of Commerce and companies like M&I bank.
We can use the Richfield Out and About TV show as a resource and possibly create our own TV show.
Our main priority right now is awareness and our greatest resource is our webpage on the city site. Judy and Jackie will set up a meeting with John Evans and Scott Bradley to find out
about getting an arts registry, calendar, and adding Jackie’s newsletter in PDF form to our webpage.
Jackie will do an awareness spot for Richfield artists to join us/get on our registry on her next newsletter
Cattail Days: Marilyn and Willie will bring easels. Pete will do a few music sets in the morning and afternoon based on his kid’s soccer schedule. We need to have some sort of sign up
outside of the arts center. There is a foam core RAC sign used in the past that we could have outside to let people to know to come in, and there will be paintings inside the Arts Center.
Ron and Jackie will be in the tent in the morning and will have a signup sheet/registry in the tent while Ron does a demo painting in the tent. Ron also suggested that he could charge
people watching the demo $1 for a kiss. Marykaye was uncertain if kissing booths were permitted at Cattail Days, but would look into it. In the Arts Center, Kimberly will have info on
Free Arts of Minnesota, Willie will do a demo. Judy will bring a spinning wheel, and everyone can bring art work to put on display. Ellen and Judy will come down to the tent and work
from 12-3. Setup is 8:45am.
Pete’s Music Album: Pete brought up an idea of his to go around to different music groups in Richfield and ask the groups to record patriotic songs for a CD/digital album that can be
branded as “…brought to you by the RAC.” Possibly get the 4th of July committee to distribute the album, and depending on copyright laws (which Pete will look into) maybe selling the
album to work as a fundraiser for the RAC.
M&I Movie Night: Ellen will send a thank you card to M&I for letting us be part of their movie night. The RAC made $25 in donations from the movie night.
Community Center Art Display: For September/October we have Quilts by Debra Caserotti, and in the Augsburg Library Oils by Phyllis Lundquist.
