RAC_NOV_09_minutesRICHFIELD ARTS COMMISSION MEETING THURSDAY NOV. 5th, 7:00 PM, IN COMMUNITY CENTER Present: Kevin Klos, Willie Falwell, Jackie Mihalik, Judy Goebel, MaryKaye Champa, Ron Wilson, Michele Thompson, Marilyn Anderson, Bob Teslow Guests: David Butler, Dan Mlynarek Minutes submitted by: Kevin Klos Justin Delzer Book Launch: MaryKaye was able to lock down a date with Justin Delzer for his book signing at the community center — Thursday, December 10th from 4pm-7pm. Report to City Council: Judy and Ellen are preparing for the RAC Annual Report to the city council, so we all discussed what the RAC has accomplished in the past year: presence at Cattail Days, judging the Teen Art Show, creating an artist registry. For upcoming events we are planning to have more of a presence at the Teen Art Show, sponsor Justin Delzer’s book launch, and continue to beef up our community presence and publicity for 2010. Judy and Ellen will also discuss some of the challenges the RAC has had with resources from the city council. David Butler: David Butler, manager of the Symphonic Band in Richfield presented to the RAC his desire to see the Music in the Parks concerts moved to Veterans Park next summer. He feels that the Picnic Shelter provides good acoustics and provides some shelter from the elements. Long range, he’s looking for grants/private funds to help build a band shell and asked the RAC for help in doing this. We told him Judy and Ellen will mention this during their upcoming meeting with Jim Topitzhofer & Frank White. Judy told David she would be in contact with him after that meeting. RAC newsletter: We brainstormed ways we could get the RAC newsletter more presence in the community. Our best solution was to keep sending to the city website to get it put in PDF form on our city page, and send one to the Sun Current with the words “press release” at the top, in order to try and get some of the news into the paper. Kevin suggested we also send the press release to City Pages. Teen Art Show: Kevin volunteered to judge and work on publicity. Ellen will also be judging along with the art teacher from Centennial. Kevin was able to coordinate the Richfield Out and About TV show to interview a few of the students entering work along with Willie and Lisa Howes. It will be running on the city tv channel. Kevin contacted the Mayor about presenting at the opening, and has sent the event date to MNArtists.org, Citypages.com and RHS to get on the Lyndale sign. MaryKaye will get the event date up on the Portland Avenue sign as well as find funds for the RAC to sponsor an award at the Teen Art Show. Kevin also contacted Tom Rublein to help him find other possible donations from other Richfield groups for the Teen Art Show. Kevin should know more by mid November.
