RAC_APR_09_minutesRICHFIELD ARTS COMMISSION MEETING THURSDAY APR. 2nd, 7:00 PM, IN COMMUNITY CENTER Present: Peter Dysart, Kevin Klos, Bob Teslow, Willie Falwell, Jackie Mihalik, Kimberly Tornoe, Marilyn Anderson, Travis Gorshe Proposal of lights on 66th street: Bob informed the group that the proposal of adding lights along 66th street has died. Way to start the meeting on an upbeat, positive note, Bob. M&I Movie Night: Marykaye met with people from M&I and found that they do want to do something with us again. August 7th will be the date of the event. It will be the same kind of setup as before, minus the mural. The movie that will be shown is “Kung Fu Panda”. Marykaye was able to reserve the whole community center. A few brainstorming questions — Is our meeting room used on Friday afternoon? If not, could we use our August meeting to set up for Friday? Pete will be inviting an M&I representative to our next meeting to further discuss the event. New Mural Planning: Travis told the group about there being discussions within the community to have a mural on the wall of the El Jalapeno market. This was originally proposed 4 years ago and the city turned it down. If we were to help out to get this rolling, should we display a plan for it or use it as a focal point on our M&I night? Maybe feature Latin artists on M&I night? Non-meeting months: We will NOT have a RAC meeting this year during the following months: July, December, and then January 2010. Community Center Art Display: Dr. Slotterback is up next for April/May. Is there any interest in having a reception for him? Ellen is on deck for June/July. Farmer’s Market: Kimberly suggested that if we have an open house, a pot luck might be a good idea. We could set up a table of food for the open house, other ideas include brochures and a way to get donations? Richfield Battle of the Bands: Travis found out that there will be a Richfield “Battle of the Bands” tied in with the 4th of July activities. Does anyone know anything about this or if we can get involved with it? Becoming a post-member of the RAC: Pete followed up with John Evans about this. John says we can not have a second tier of members for the RAC, as every “member” of a Richfield commission must be selected by the city council. These are open meetings however, so anyone can come and contribute, even if you are a former member. You just can’t vote. Southwest Journal Ad for Art Classes: We need to get an update from Ron to find out the status of getting an ad placed in the journal. Free Arts of Minnesota: Kimberly found this group online, which works with abused children through art as a way of healing. (freeartsminnesota.org) Is this something we may want to go to as a group, or contribute through donating art supplies? Kimberly and Travis will go to an informational meeting to find out more and report back to us. RAC Flyer: Jackie is putting this together now and will include h.s. bands and the art in the community center and library.
